A skilled accounting and finance professional, Mr. Kalwitz has earned distinction as the finance director for these North Carolina municipalities; Town of Anger, Town of Newport, Town of Wallace, and Town of Maysville. During his tenure at these municipalities, imbalanced Trial Balances were rectified, years of bank reconciliation issues were resolved, new financial software was implemented, and he brought unassigned fund balance (rainy day money) to necessary thresholds (from 6% to 43%). Raising the unassigned fund balance involved effective collaboration with departments heads, the town manager, as well as Board of Commissioners. Additionally, he is a valued member of the North Carolina Capital Management Trust. Prior to his current position, Mr. Kalwitz began his career as a research assistant for Indiana University Bloomington in 2008 and became a financial resource research intern for the Indiana Small Business Development Center in 2009. Following this time, he was a graduate management intern for the Harnett County Administration in 2010 and an accounting clerk and management intern for Harnett County in 2011. He continued his career as a finance director for the Town of Wallace in 2015, for the Town of Newport in 2018, and for the Town of Angier in 2019, where he discovered that the software was not implemented correctly and was able to correct the issues.

To prepare for his professional journey, Mr. Kalwitz earned a Bachelor of Science in public affairs, financial management and economics from Indiana University Bloomington in 2007. Following this achievement, he attained a Master of Public Administration in financial administration, economic development and policy analysis from the same institution in 2009. Well-qualified in his field, he is a certified North Carolina local government finance officer.

Within the coming years, Mr. Kalwitz intends to continue making a positive impact with his work, ensuring transparency and accuracy in the municipality’s financial records while sharing his enthusiasm for finance, accounting and budgeting with his colleagues.
