Mr. Dean was selected by the Association of Oncology Social Work and LLS as the recipient of the national 2023 Hematology & Oncology Social Worker of the Year award.
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR, February 19, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Harold M. Dean, MSW, LCSW, OSW-C, has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Since 2015, Mr. Dean has thrived as the manager of the Social Work Department at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Myeloma Center. With more than 35 years of social work experience to his credit, he specializes in providing assessment, counseling and case management services of the aforementioned cancer treatment center. Mr. Dean also focuses on overseeing the social work department and helping his patients and their family members cope with the emotional distress of a cancer diagnosis. Since 2010 he has served as co-facilitator of the Little Rock Blood Cancer Support Group. Since 1993, he has contributed to the American Cancer Society in various volunteer capacities. He has also been a speaker at local, state and national professional and patient education events and serves as the Arkansas State Representative for the Association of Oncology Social Work.
Alongside his responsibilities at the UAMS Myeloma Center, Mr. Dean was appointed by Arkansas Governor, Mike Beebe in 2013 and in 2014 to the Arkansas Social Work Licensing Board. He served as chair of the board from 2014-2017. In 2016, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), one of the three pillar organizations of the social work profession. In 2018, he was elected as president of the ASWB Board. During his term in office, the process of licensure reciprocity and portability was simplified and the association made the decision to release licensure exam data. In 2020 he was elected to the Board of Oncology Social Work Certification and currently serves in the role of Chair-Elect. Mr. Dean has also been actively involved in social work education for 25 years serving as a field liaison for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Social Work.
In 2000, Mr. Dean was recognized with a Volunteer Service Award on behalf of the Little Rock division of the American Cancer Society. In 2018 he was honored by the Little Rock division of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) with a Legacy Leadership Award. Most recently, Mr. Dean was selected by the Association of Oncology Social Work and LLS as the recipient of the national 2023 Hematology & Oncology Social Worker of the Year award.
Outside of his professional work, Mr. Dean previously served as President of the Community Theatre of Little Rock. He has participated in myriad Central Arkansas theater productions as a director, actor and singer for more than 25 years. Mr. Dean currently serves as the President of the Arkansas chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters, an organization dedicated to assisting promising young artists through competitions, financial assistance and providing career opportunities.
In addition to his faith, Mr. Dean attributes a great deal of his success to his parents, both of whom displayed a firm commitment to their careers throughout his childhood. In the coming years, he will move onto the position of chairperson for the Board of Oncology Social Work Certification and plans to facilitate ongoing improvements in the organization’s operational efficiency. A leading figure in the local social work community Mr. Dean intends to devote more time towards sharing his expertise with social work colleagues and cancer patients through educational forums across the United States.
