Harlow, UK – 25 January 2023 – Haag-Streit UK (HS-UK), the leading manufacturer and distributor of gold standard diagnostic and surgical equipment and instruments for ophthalmologists, optometrists and orthoptists, is pleased to announce that it is now the authorized distributor for the Deep Reality Viewer (DRV) in the UK.

The DRV offers a unique, glasses-free stereoscopic 3D display technology that combines natural visualization with excellent depth perception.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the DRV was developed by Vision Engineering who have over 60 years experience in the design and manufacture of optical and digital instruments for ergonomic microscopy. The unique technology behind the DRV’s stereo imaging overcomes the need for polarized glasses by projecting independent optical channels onto the user’s eyes, reproducing natural stereo vision and depth perception.

The DRV can be used to support both surgical and diagnostic training. With its ergonomic “heads-up” design, it allows the user to comfortably perform, demonstrate and monitor surgical simulations in high 3D magnification. The Full HD display image is delivered at an ergonomically optimized angle to support good posture and reduce strain on your back and neck.

In conjunction with the Haag-Streit BQ 900 slit lamp, the DRV enables co-observation for teaching, either in real time or recorded for later review. A stereo camera positioned between the slit lamp optics and the eyepieces allows simultaneous viewing of the optical stereo image in the slit lamp and the digital image in the DRV.

The DRV allows the teacher to see the stereo image in real time with no noticeable latency. In addition, live stereo video can be streamed from one DRV to another, allowing multiple users to view it in stereo, while it is also possible for one channel to be streamed to an external mono display for viewers.

Dean Johnson, Managing Director of HS-UK said: “The DRV is an exciting addition to HS-UK’s product portfolio and a natural extension of our training and simulation products. We look forward to bringing this to the UK eye care market and believe it offers fantastic opportunities for both surgical and diagnostic training.”

Stewart Mardell, Vice President of Vision Engineering, said: “Vision Engineering is delighted to be working with Haag-Streit UK to bring our glasses-free DRV stereo display to the UK eye care sector. The combination of Vision Engineering’s 65 years of ergonomic microscopy and Haag-Streit’s extensive ophthalmic expertise will provide significant benefits for slit lamp teaching and simulated eye surgery.”
