A leading local business owner for over 45 years, Ms. Del Grosso-Vilag is a recognized dancer, teacher, and founder of Janet’s School of Dance in Taylor, Michigan. Establishing her dance school in 1977, she continually offers group and private lessons by qualified instructors, including competitive dance instruction. Among various dance styles, Ms. Del Grosso-Vilag’s studio specializes in baton, pom-pom, ballet, tap, hip-hop, jazz, Hawaiian, and more.
Critical to Ms. Del Grosso-Vilag’s distinguished tenure has been the inclusive environment that she established long ago. As a testament to her success, she has taught generations of students, many of whom have won local, state, and national titles in baton, dance, and modeling.
Outside of her primary career goals as the owner of her dancing school, Ms. Del Grosso-Vilag teaches Polish Folk Dancing to members of the downriver organization, the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America (PRCUA). She is also recognized as a certified Class A judge for the World Twirling Association, through which she judges competitions for the World Twirling Association and Twirling Unlimited throughout the U.S., and served as the assistant color guard coach for the Carlson Marching Marauders marching band. Previously, Ms. Del Grosso-Vilag was employed as a physical education and special education teacher by the Gibraltar School District until 2012.
As a longtime resident of her community, Ms. Del Grosso-Vilag has devoted time to her church, various local and regional initiatives to support the children, and other vital causes. Most notably, she has been involved with the Special Olympics, Relay For Life, a community-based fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, and the local Boy Scouts of America.
Ms. Del Grosso-Vilag began dancing at the age of three and began teaching dance in 1971 at several local dance schools. She has extensive training in tap, baton, clogging, modeling, and folk. She opened Janets School of Dance one year before graduating from college, earning a Bachelor of Science in special education and a minor in fine arts from Eastern Michigan University in 1978. Ms. Del Grosso-Vilag also received several professional designations, including certification through Dance Educators of America and Dance Masters of Michigan-America, World Twirling Association and with a highly qualified certification in physical education.
Continually giving back her time and expertise, Ms. Del Grosso-Vilag is active through several professional organizations as a member of Dance Masters of America, and Dance Educators of America, former director for Dance Masters of Michigan, and as a member and board member of the World Twirling Association.
In light of her long and distinguished career, Ms. Del Grosso-Vilag was recognized by the PRCUA in 2021 with a Certificate of Merit for 45 Years of Teaching. She was also named as the Member of the Year by Dance Masters of Michigan in 2010. Besides her accolades, Ms. Del Grosso-Vilag had the opportunity to lead numerous national champion groups and individuals and marched with her students at several Walt Disney Parades.
