Popovich, retired Assistant Inspector General for Resource Management of the United States Agency for International Development, has been selected for a cover feature in the eighth issue of the Marquis Millennium Magazine. Millennium Magazine is published every three years and features narrative biographies of the world’s most respected and accomplished professionals. The release is available to Marquis Listeners only and inclusion is by invitation only.
John E. Popovich grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and met people from different cultures and backgrounds. With many friends of Asian-American descent, he enjoyed listening to their parents talk about their experiences growing up in Asia. From these relationships he developed a desire to pursue a formal career in history where he could educate himself about cultures worldwide. In 1952, Mr. Popovich enlisted in the US Army and attended the Army Language School in Monterey, California, where he studied the Russian language. Shortly thereafter he was posted to Tokyo at the end of the Korean War and devoted the following two years of his service to efforts in Kyoto, known as the historical and cultural center of Japan.
