After serving in the U.S. Army, Mr. Gillis sought out opportunities as a civilian, working for the U.S. Post Office before finding a position at the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey as a police officer. Inspired by this experience, he was driven to pursue a career in law enforcement, serving with the Los Angeles Police Department, where over the years, he rose through the ranks to become a sergeant, lieutenant, and assistant commanding officer. In the following years, Mr. Gillis gained valuable expertise as commissioner of the board of prison terms for the State of California, the director of the Office for Victims of Crime for the U.S. Department of Justice, and chief of victim services for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. Similarly, he served on the American Legislative Exchange Council’s victim committee and the California State Bar Association’s Crime Victims and Corrections Committee. Backed by years of professional experience, Mr. Gillis excels with the eponymous Gillis Management Consultants.

Mr. Gillis, an expert in his field, holds an Associate of Arts in criminal justice from East Los Angeles College, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and corrections from California State University, Los Angeles, and a Master of Public Administration from the prestigious University of Southern California. His extensive educational background is a testament to his dedication and expertise in the field, and it commands our respect and admiration.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Mr. Gillis contributes to his community through the National Organization for Victim Assistance, the National Crime Victim Law Institute, Justice for Homicide Victims, the National Organization for Victim Advocacy, the Interstate Commission for Adult Offender Supervision, Memory of Victims Everywhere, the Coalition of Victims Equal Rights, and Victims and Friends United.

Given his professional achievements, Mr. Gillis was inducted into the American Police Hall of Fame, a National Crime Victim Service Award, a Special Commendation Award, and the John W. Gillis Leadership Award from the National Organization of Parents of Murdered Children.

While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Gillis takes the most pride in working with the LAPD for 25 years as head of their communications division. Looking toward the future, he intends to experience continued growth and success in his career with Gillis Management Consultants. His unwavering commitment to his work and his future aspirations inspire hope and optimism for the future.
