Mr. Bivera, a distinguished Filipino American, has contributed significantly to visual media for over 35 years. As the principal of Visual Media One since 2007, he has expertly documented news and media events for diverse clients, with his work appearing in major newspapers, magazines and video documentaries. His expertise extends to facilitating workshops for military and civil service photographers, covering events and creating official portraits. Additionally, Mr. Bivera is the founder and executive director of Shoot Off Visual Media Workshops, established in 2006, where he continues to inspire and educate aspiring photographers through innovative programs.

A career marked by notable achievements and roles, Mr. Bivera co-founded and contributed to the Legion Photo Agency from 2007 to 2017. His dedication to storytelling was previously demonstrated as a senior visual storytelling instructor at The Red Badge Project between 2012 and 2016, where he was also a founding faculty member. Mr. Bivera also had the opportunity to serve as the executive photographer for the Pentagon under Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Vern Clark and Admiral Mike Mullen from 2002 to 2006. His military service notably included time as a combat photographer with Navy Combat Camera during two separate periods between 1991 and 1994 and between 1999 and 2002.

A highlight of Mr. Bivera’s career was his tenure as an official videographer for President Bill Clinton at White House Television from 1994 to 1999 and directed the archiving of thousands of videotape recordings of the President’s official duties and personal time he wished documented. Mr. Bivera’s military career culminated in retirement from the U.S. Navy in 2006 after distinguished service covering combat and humanitarian missions such as the Bosnia/Herzegovina conflict, the Israeli-Jordan Peace Treaty, Turkey’s tragic earthquake in 1999, and the war in Afghanistan.

In preparation for his career, Mr. Bivera completed the advanced military photojournalism program certification through Rochester Institute of Technology in New York in 1990, graduating as the top student in his class of 15. His professional journey has been enriched by his membership in several prestigious organizations. He serves as a U.S. Department of Defense liaison for the National Press Photographers Association and has been involved with the White House News Photographers Association as a member of its education committee. He is also affiliated with the American Society of Media Photographers and has served as past president of the National Association of Naval Photography. Moreover, Mr. Bivera has been actively involved in civic organizations, such as serving on the advisory committee for the D.C. Public Library Arts Council. On August 7, 2024, Mr. Bivera was inducted into the Defense Information School’s (DINFOS) Alumni Hall of Fame.

Mr. Bivera’s work has been featured on PBS’s Jim Lehrer NewsHour, C-SPAN’s Washington Journal and NFL Films’s “American Postcards.” He has also been published in numerous books and has collaborated on projects with Harper Collins and the National Geographic Society.

Throughout his career, Mr. Bivera has learned valuable lessons about fortitude, dreams, and relationships that have greatly benefited him.
