Mr. Hancock is a distinguished Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner with a specialization in complex spine, vascular malformations and hemorrhages, and tumors. He has served at Atlantic Brain and Spine since 20I6. With years of experience in the health care field spanning decades, he has developed a reputation for his expertise and dedication to patient care.
Mr. Hancock began his career in the medical field as a volunteer on Arbor Rescue Squad in Piscataway, NJ where he obtained his Emergency Medical Technician- Basic, through the Central Jersey Training Center as the youngest student to ever enroll at the age of 16. He continued his prehospital volunteer work at River Road Rescue Squad, also in Piscataway, NJ. During 9/11 he was the youngest Captain in township history at the age of 19 to aid in task force support in rescue and recovery efforts. During this period, he was also trained as a Firefighter for Piscataway at Holmes Marshall Fire Department, a volunteer engine company. While attending school for his Registered Nurse he worked as an EMT for Always Caring Medical Transport in Dunellen, NJ and an Emergency Room Patient Care Technician at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield, NJ. He then transitioned to a registered nurse role at the Center, where he was recognized as Rookie of the Year in Nursing in 2005. During that time he also worked on the mobile intensive care unit Mercy 6 & 7 as a MICN. Following this position, he served as a registered nurse at JFK Medical Center in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit. Before assuming his current role, he worked as a staff nurse, as well as nurse educator for the surgical/trauma and medical intensive care units at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ.
Complementing Mr. Hancock’s professional journey is his military service as a Corpsman in the United States Navy. He was attached to a Marine Corps infantry unit where he was named Sailor of the Year in 2007, and earned the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in 2008 while deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. His commitment to excellence is further evidenced by his membership in esteemed organizations such as the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses and the New Jersey Freemasons.
Providing Mr. Hancock with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in nursing was his academic background. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Middlesex County College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Kaplan University, graduating with summa cum laude distinction in 2012 and inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing from Drexel University, which he earned in 2016. He is also certified as an adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner, a neuroscience registered nurse, a registered nurse and a firefighter.
Reflecting on his accomplishments, Mr. Hancock attributes his success to his strong dedication and proactive approach to challenges, viewing setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning. This mindset has been influenced by his upbringing in a family of nurses, including his parents and grandmother, who inspired him to pursue a career in health care.
Outside his professional endeavors, Mr. Hancock is actively involved in civic activities as a volunteer with the Cub Scouts. He has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the Neuroscience Excellence Award from Atlantic Health System in 2012. Looking ahead, he aims to continue being a devoted father while striving for success in his practice at Atlantic Brain and Spine.
