Drawing on years of expertise in biostatistics and education, Dr. Ibrahim excels as an alumni distinguished professor of biostatistics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he has conducted cancer research in addition to his teaching duties. Over the years, he has been the principal investigator for several grants and contracts for statistical methodology development related to clinical trials and cancer and genomics research. In addition to his work with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he is the director of graduate studies, he is also the director of the biostatistics core at the University’s Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the director for the Laboratory for Innovative Clinical Trials (LICT) at UNC. During the early stages of his career, Dr. Ibrahim gained valuable expertise as an associate professor in Harvard University’s Department of Biostatistics and an assistant professor at Northern Illinois University.
Due to his vast knowledge, Dr. Ibrahim has authored two books titled “Monte Carlo Methods in Bayesian Computation” and “Bayesian Survival Analysis.” Additionally, he was an editor for the Journal of the American Statistical Association and an associate editor for various professional journals.
An expert in his field, Dr. Ibrahim holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics, a Master of Science in statistics, and a PhD in statistics from the University of Minnesota. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, he is an elected member of the American Statistical Association, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, the International Society for Bayesian Analysis, The Royal Statistical Society, and the International Statistical Institute.
In light of his professional achievements, Dr. Ibrahim won multiple awards from the University of North Carolina and the best Statistical Partnerships Among Academe, Industry, and Government (SPAIG) award from the American Statistical Association. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in developing methods for Bayesian statistics with applications in clinical trials. Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, he credits his success to his training at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Ibrahim intends to see his developed methods commonly utilized in various industries.
