Born to Samuel Luther and Cecil Lunette Davis on their tenth wedding anniversary, Ms. Rhodes harbored a lifelong dream to become a nurse and specialize in the area of surgery. Inspired by a health nurse named Ms. Sippel, who was responsible for the vaccinations she received at the age of nine, her wonder was held by the elegance she perceived by her white uniform, flight cap, and shoes. Growing up in a small town comprised of around 1,200 citizens, Ms. Rhodes was also greatly motivated by her mother, a strong believer in maintaining a good work ethic who provided her with unwavering support and a driving force toward the road to success.

Prior to embarking upon her professional path, Ms. Rhodes earned a diploma in nursing at Piedmont Hospital, now known as Piedmont Atlanta Hospital in Georgia, between 1961 and 1964. He subsequently obtained his certification as an operating room nurse at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital from 1964 to 1965. Becoming designated as a registered nurse in the state in 1965, Ms. Rhodes began her career as a registered nurse at Athens General Hospital between 1965 and 1970.

Soon thereafter, Ms. Rhodes served as a registered nurse and an assistant for Dr. James Green, a general surgeon operating out of Athens, Georgia, from 1970 to 1976. He subsequently found success as a registered nurse and an assistant in a surgical obstetrics and gynecology practice between 1976 and 1985. Refining her skills during this time, Ms. Rhodes later excelled as the team leader of neurosurgery at the Athens Regional Medical Center from 1985 to 2003, during which time she was responsible for assisting neurosurgeons with complex surgical procedures, supervising the condition of essential medical devices, and securing her team’s access to the most current equipment and supplies available.

Retiring from her full-time professional commitments in 2003, Ms. Rhodes would work in the field on a part-time basis as a registered nurse dedicated to caring for patients with Alzheimer’s disease for more than five years. Since 2006, she has been active as a nursing service provider in Georgia. Among the highlights of her stellar, decades-spanning career, Ms. Rhodes is incredibly proud to have had an incredibly gratifying career in health care, and fondly recalls her tenure in the operating room while collaborating with physicians.

In addition to her primary responsibilities, Ms. Rhodes had been affiliated with the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), a national community whose mission is to support nurses and surgical teams in providing evidence-based and high-quality care. She has likewise contributed as a parishioner at the Beech Haven Baptist Church in Athens, Georgia since 2008. She has also been committed to her community through multiple charitable organizations that support animals as well as disabled military veterans. Ms. Rhodes specifically she helps organizations that care for the well-being of donkeys and dogs that have become heroes for assisting U.S. Army personnel.

Ms. Rhodes has attributed her significant success to her loving husband, Don, a skilled businessman who provided for their household while offering a keen understanding of the importance of her necessary work at her respective hospitals. She was further bolstered in her activities by her faith in helping people and her desire to achieve something that she did not think could be possible in her career. Moreover, Ms. Rhodes found a great deal of satisfaction in her part-time work in helping patients living with Alzheimer’s disease in recent years, an experience she cites among her most rewarding.

As someone who is dedicated to paying her goodwill forward to future generations, Ms. Rhodes advises the next wave of medical professionals to give their best effort possible in their respective disciplines while remaining devoted and passionate about their choices. She is a firm believer in her motto, of which she is a living example: “No matter where you come from, you can accomplish something great.” As a testament to her exceptional career, Ms. Rhodes has been highlighted in Fortune Magazine, Vogue Magazine, Millennium Magazine and The Wall Street Journal.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Rhodes hopes to remain as active and engaged in life’s splendors as her mother, who lived to the age of 95. Furthermore, she aims to remain healthy enough to continue supporting Beech Haven Baptist Church, as she believes she can still offer the services and skills acquired from a lifetime in her areas of expertise to those who may need her help. In addition to her community endeavors, Ms. Rhodes plans on reading, sewing, and traveling in her spare time as well.
