“Having networked with many designers in her area, she has gained more knowledge about her field, leading to her growing success.”

ROCHESTER, NY, February 03, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ — Kara L. Brown, interior designer with Colliers Engineering and Design, was selected by Marquis Who’s Who for a prominent feature in the New England Edition of The Wall Street Journal, published on January 16, 2025.

As an interior designer with Colliers Engineering and Design, previously known as Bergmann, Ms. Brown plans and designs spaces for individual and corporate clients. She oversees each project from its beginning stages to the final presentation, seeking to provide clients with results that closely match their initial vision. She became involved in her industry out of a lifelong love of art and a penchant for problem-solving, as interior design provides a perfect combination of art, mathematics and science.

Ms. Brown began her studies at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts in interior design, graduating in 2014. While a student at the university, she presented work in the Undergraduate Honors Exhibition at Bevier Gallery in 2012 and earned the Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar Award in 2014. After graduating, she secured a position at Hanlon Architects as an interior designer, remaining in the role until 2019, when she joined Colliers Engineering and Design. In addition to her work as an interior designer, she is active in the color guard performing arts, having worked as a show designer and instructor with Gates Chili Color Guard Inc. since 2012. Since 2019, she has served as a caption head with White Sabers Drum Corps Inc. and color guard instructor with the Medina High School Marching Band.

Reflecting on her career, Ms. Brown is proud of how she has grown as a designer. With Colliers Engineering and Design, she has worked on numerous high-level projects, such as a large office project for a trucking company in Ohio. This project, which spanned multiple years, involved renovating a warehouse into an office building and was the first project she remained involved with from inception to completion. In many of her earlier projects, she worked in the company’s office with other designers and was not involved with fieldwork. The first time she went on-site to view a project being built, she was struck by the importance of laying solid groundwork for the latter parts of the design and building process, which increased her appreciation for her position.

Ms. Brown attributes her success to the mentorship of senior designers. While with Hanlon Architects, she was given the opportunity to work with a designer with decades of experience who took her on as a mentee, providing ample learning opportunities. Having networked with many designers in her area, she has gained more knowledge about her field, leading to her growing success. As a designer, she enjoys collaborating with architects, engineers, contractors and other designers and maintains an organized and detail-oriented workflow.

In the future, Ms. Brown plans to continue designing and is interested in mentoring younger people. She hopes to expand her reach within the industry over the coming years and intends to delve more into the topic of improving sustainability through the design process.
