In the early 1980’s, Ms. Whealey prospered as the Vice President of the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond, which offers a variety of educational and leadership development programs for members of the Girl Scouts of America ages 12 and younger.

From 1984 to 1990, Ms. Whealey served on the boards of the Tri-County Career Center and the Ohio Environmental Council. Between 2016 and 2017, Ms. Whealey received a Social Justice Award for Contributions Over a Lifetime and a Lifetime Achievement Award for Social Justice from Ohio University’s United Campus Ministry.

Ms. Whealey attributes much of her success to the influence of her mother, who was particularly active as an elected official in the Nevada state legislature in the 1930s. She is very proud to have inspired her daughter and granddaughter to continue the legacy of her family’s participation in the Girl Scouts of America. Although Ms. Whealey has reduced her activities with AAUW and the League of Women Voters, she continues to play a central role in several community organizations in her beloved hometown of Athens, Ohio.
