Dr. Cooper is a distinguished expert in psychology, currently serving as a professor at Grand Canyon University. Dr. Cooper’s professional journey at Grand Canyon University began in 2011 when she joined as full-time online faculty. She progressed to assistant professor in 2014, associate professor in 2019 and achieved the rank of professor in 2021. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she serves as the online psychology content lead, further solidifying her expertise and leadership within the department. Her involvement with the American Psychological Association and Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, underscores her dedication to advancing psychological research and education.

Before joining Grand Canyon University, Dr. Cooper was a full-time faculty member at the University of Phoenix from 2009 to 2011. During this time, she developed a mentorship program that allows both incoming students and faculty members to seek guidance from their peers, an initiative she considers one of her most notable achievements. Prior to her academic roles, she served as a student services manager at the University of Phoenix from 2005 until 2008, during which time she received the Award of Excellence for Student Management.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Cooper served as a children’s counselor at Prehab of Arizona from 2002 to 2003 and as a case manager at Save the Family between 1999 and 2002. These positions provided her with valuable experience in counseling and case management, laying the foundation for her future success in academia.

Instrumental in Dr. Cooper’s professional achievements was her educational background, which began with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Arizona State University, obtained in 1998. She subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration in human resources management from the University of Phoenix in 2007, followed by a Master of Science in psychology from the same institution in 2009. In 2020, she earned a Doctor of Philosophy in general psychology with an emphasis in cognition and instruction from Grand Canyon University. She attributes her success to the support of her family and the values instilled by her parents.

Throughout her career, Dr. Cooper has emphasized the importance of humanizing the teaching profession through a servant-mentorship approach. Her mantra is “your success is my success,” which she consistently shares with her students.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Cooper is actively involved in numerous civic organizations, including the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center, Habitat for Humanity, St. Mary’s Food Bank, Feed My Starving Children, Save the Family and local animal shelters. Her dedication to community service is complemented by her creative endeavors, including authoring “Brody’s Fur-Ever Home: A Story of Love and Loss,” published by Archway Publishing in 2019.

In recognition of her contributions to academia and student mentorship, Dr. Cooper has received several awards, including the Provost Excellence Award in 2024 and the Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award in 2020. She remains dedicated to mentoring students and new faculty members, striving to make a positive difference in their lives while enjoying life’s adventures with her family.

Looking ahead, Dr. Cooper aims to continue publishing impactful research in psychology while focusing on artificial intelligence. She is committed to providing her father with the best quality of life following her mother’s passing in 2022 and prioritizing self-care alongside her professional commitments.
