Major Pourteau attended Officer Candidates School and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in August 2009, after having completed his undergraduate education in history at Texas A&M University. He subsequently received his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2010.

During the spring of 2011, prior to attending The Basic School, Major Pourteau was assigned to the Legal Service Support Team at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, where he served as an Assistant Trial Counsel within the Military Justice section. In May 2011, he attended The Basic School, and subsequently attended the Naval Justice School. In April 2012, he was assigned to the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Marine Corps Installations Pacific, Okinawa. While assigned to the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, he served as the Foreign Criminal Jurisdiction Officer, advising Marines in Japanese custody of their rights under the Status of Forces Agreement, acting as a liaison between Japanese authorities and the Marine Corps, and acting as a trial observer. In September 2013, he was assigned to the Legal Services Support Team Okinawa Trial Services Office as a Trial Counsel, in which role he prosecuted numerous general courts-martial and special courts-martial, and served as recorder for officer separation boards. In August 2015, he reported to The Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School (TJAGLCS) for the 64th Graduate Course, upon completion of which he received a Master of Laws Degree (LL.M.) in Military Law with a specialty in International and Operational Law.

From summer 2016 until summer 2017, Major Pourteau served as the 2d Marine Division Operational Law Attorney, in which billet he provided operational law and administrative law support, as well as general command legal advice in conjunction with the Staff Judge Advocate and Deputy Staff Judge Advocate at 2d Marine Division, headquartered at Camp Lejeune, NC. From summer 2017 to spring 2018, he served as the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate at 2d Marine Division. From spring 2018 to fall 2018, he served as the Battalion Judge Advocate for 1st Battalion, 6th Marines on the Black Sea Rotational Force / Marine Rotational Forces Europe, and following that deployment returned to the Staff Judge Advocate’s office at 2d Marine Division as Operational Law Attorney.

In May 2019, Major Pourteau was assigned to Marine Barracks Washington as Command Judge Advocate, where he provided command legal advice on a wide variety of subjects, including in part: military justice, ethics, administrative and fiscal law matters, and operational law issues such as use of force and authorities. While assigned to Marine Barracks Washington, he was also honored to represent the Marine Corps in collateral capacities supporting the 59th Presidential Inauguration, and by marching as a Parade Commander and as an Escort Commander for full honors funerals at Arlington National Cemetery.

In May 2022 Major Pourteau departed Marine Barracks Washington and began his current tour with the Office of Legislative Affairs (HQMC OLA) as a Congressional Defense Fellow. During this tour he served as Defense Fellow to Rep. Mike Turner and completed a Master of Public Policy (MPP) Degree. He currently serves as Legislative Liaison for the Military Personnel Policy (MILPERS) portfolio at HQMC OLA. Major Pourteau is married to Ms. Ravenna E. Romack, Esq., and they have a daughter, Josephine. He enjoys outdoor activities, fitness, and developing skills through a variety of do-it-yourself projects.
