Ms. Mukundan is a distinguished professional in the field of energy, focusing on lower carbon energy solutions. Her endeavors in this area are widely recognized as she has been instrumental in advancing Chevron’s understanding and initiatives towards lowering the carbon intensity of its operations and progressing lower carbon energy offerings. She is currently the commercial manager for hydrogen at Chevron New Energies. She is supporting Chevron’s efforts in building a lower carbon intensity hydrogen value chain for industrial, power & transport segments.

Ms. Mukundan’s expansive career began in 2007, when she joined the Cummins Engine Company as an engineer. There, she led the performance development of the 19-liter natural gas engine for power generation applications. In 2009, she joined Chevron as part of a group specializing in fuels and advanced combustion technology. In this role, she led testing and development of differentiated fuels and additives. She received a patent for proposing a fuel modifier solution for natural gas reciprocating engines supporting lowered emissions.

From 2012 to 2014, she served as an analyst for the Advanced Fuels and Energy team creating regional on-road fuel consumption forecasts as an input to internal price guidance and refinery planning. Additionally, she provided technical support to investment evaluations conducted by Chevron’s venture arm. Between 2014 and 2018, Ms. Mukundan transitioned to a business role supporting performance benchmarking and funds dissemination for the developing Shale & Tight business in the Permian.

Between 2018 and 2021, Ms. Mukundan stepped into corporate strategy roles in the lower carbon space. As manager of Carbon Markets, she created plans and organizational capability to meet California’s cap and trade compliance. As program manager for carbon management, she replicated this knowledge into a system that helped several of Chevron’s international businesses gain compliance with regional carbon pricing schemes. Additionally, her work focused on developing internal and external strategies to enhance decarbonization impacts in the energy sector. Chief amongst them was the company-wide roll-out of carbon intensity performance targets and representing Chevron at forums like the International Emissions Trading Association.

From 2021 to 2023, Ms. Mukundan was a senior manager leading activity to lower the carbon footprint of Chevron’s shipping company. In that position, she played a pivotal role in enhancing the visibility and mitigation of third-party chartered emissions by establishing a partnership with the Sea Cargo Charter. Amongst other contributions, she established partnerships with Maran Tankers and the American Bureau of Shipping to develop the design for novel large sized ammonia carriers that support energy markets.

Along with gaining hands-on experience in her field, Ms. Mukundan holds several degrees. Originally from Gujarat, India, she attended the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 2004 before immigrating to the United States in 2005. Subsequently, she earned a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 2007. Most recently, in 2022, Ms. Mukundan completed a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. In course of her study, she published a study with MACK Institute of Innovation Management that analyzes the impact of connected strategies and technology towards furthering a hydrogen economy.

In all she has pursued and achieved, Ms. Mukundan attributes her success to her curiosity, desire to learn, and ability to connect the dots, as well as the strong work ethic instilled in her by her parents. When Ms. Mukundan dedicates her time and effort to a specific cause, she drives it to success. In addition to her professional endeavors and affiliations, she is actively involved in civic organizations, serving this year on the Women in Leadership Program advisory board at the University of San Francisco’s School of Management. Outside of work, she balances her professional life with her personal life as a wife and mother of two children, a daughter and a son.
