Ms. Collins has made significant strides in her career as an expert in post-mortem care and anatomical research. Currently serving as adjunct faculty at FINE Mortuary College since 2023, she manages and operates a body donation program that has seen remarkable success under her leadership. Since 2016, Ms. Collins has held the role of Director of Anatomical Services at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where she also became an Assistant Professor in 2018. Her tenure at the University of Vermont College of Medicine as Director and embalmer from 2011 to 2016 laid a strong foundation for her current achievements. Prior to this, Ms. Collins gained hands-on experience as a licensed funeral director and embalmer at Mahn Family Funeral Home from 2009 to 2011 and honed her skills as a funeral director apprentice at Helke Funeral Home from 2008 to 2009.

Ms. Collins’ dedication to enhancing education within the anatomy laboratory is evident through her innovative approach to community engagement. She has successfully coined the phrase “You’re more than just your body,” which resonates with the community and has contributed to a doubling of donation rates in 2023. This initiative has positioned her program at the forefront of fully green donations within the professional sphere.

The educational background of Ms. Collins includes a graduate certificate in medical human anatomy from the University of Florida, obtained in 2020, and a Master of Public Health from the University of Vermont, completed in 2017. She earned her Bachelor of Science in mortuary science and Bachelor of Science in family social science from the University of Minnesota in 2008 and 2007, respectively. Currently pursuing a PhD in Gerontology at the University of Massachusetts Boston, with a focus on end-of-life care and post-death experiences, Ms. Collins’ research is set to make significant contributions to understanding how anatomical gift programs impact donor families.

Ms. Collins’ personal life reflects her professional dedication to service and community involvement. As a first-generation college graduate, she understands the value of education and strives to make meaningful contributions beyond academia. Her involvement with various organizations such as The Gerontological Society of America, American Association for Anatomy, and co-founding The Eastern Consortium of Academic Body Donation Programs demonstrates her commitment to advancing her field. Additionally, Ms. Collins provides outreach and volunteer support for the Veterans Administration in Worcester, Massachusetts, actively engages with the local LGBTQ community, and collaborates with the Black Clergy Caucus.

In her personal time, Ms. Collins finds joy in nurturing creativity through reading, playing and creating art with her child. Her long-term aspirations include redefining body donation within academia by exploring and learning the successes seen in organ donation to enhance whole-body donor family experiences. Through these endeavors, Ms. Collins aims to foster a positive perception of body donation and ensure that families feel supported and valued throughout the process.
