    CARLSBAD, CA, November 06, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Marian H. Birge has been inducted into Marquis Who’s Who. Ms. Birge is a founding partner of the firm Garcia & Birge, APC. She has nearly 30 years of experience in civil litigation, representing plaintiffs and defendants. Her areas of practice include employment law, discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, disability issues, retaliation, wage and hour, contracts, business disputes, and fraud. Ms. Birge is also an experienced appellate lawyer and a trained mediator. She received her Juris Doctor degree in 1995 from Western State University College of Law, now Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in 1993. She received her Associates Degree from Cazenovia College in Cazenovia, NY in 1973. Ms. Birge received her mediation training at the National Conflict Resolution Center in San Diego in 2005. She served as Adjunct Faculty at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2016, teaching Federal Civil Procedure.

Ms. Birge is the author of publications including the article Exploring Wage and Hour Disputes in California, a June 2023 expert insight feature in Lawyer Monthly Magazine; Preparing for Voir Dire, Voir Dire and Plaintiff’s Opening Statement, Chapter 15 of Sexual Harassment and Retaliation, A Practical Handbook for Plaintiff and Defense, an American Bar Association Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section publication edited by Roxella T. Cavazos and Sandra R. McCandless, (2019); Lessons from a Six-Week Professional Negligence Trial, Exclusion of Testimony of Non Retained Experts, North County Lawyer Magazine, Vol. 30, No 11 (2013); and Attacking the Expert Witness, North County Lawyer Magazine, Vol. 31, No 1 (2014). She co-authored Voir Dire and Plaintiff’s Opening Statement, Chapter 14 in Litigating the Workplace Harassment Case, an American Bar Association Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section publication, edited by Marlene Heyser (2010) with her partner, Silvia L. Garcia.

She is a member of the California State Bar and the California Lawyers Association Employment Law and Litigation Sections. She is also a Member of the American Bar Association and its Civil Rights and Social Justice Section. Ms. Birge was a longtime member of the North San Diego County Bar Association and served on its Board of Directors and as a Vice President/Secretary from 2015 to 2017. She was a Barrister in the American Inns of Court, Chapter 303, Fiorenzo V. Lopardo from 2008 to 2011, and a member of the San Diego County Bar Association (1995-2005) and the American Association for Justice (formerly Association of Trial Lawyers of America) (2006).

Silvia L. Garcia, the other founding partner of the firm, died from cancer in 2012. Ms. Garcia was a champion of social justice and equal rights in the workplace. She was a long time member and board member of San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association, and served as the Chair and Board of Directors of the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation from 1993 to 2012. Both institutions honored Ms. Garcia posthumously though special memorial scholarships. Silvia was a magnificent lawyer, a steadfast friend, and she is missed by the many people who came to rely on her intellect, compassion, and integrity.
