    CHUGIAK, AK, February 06, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Mariano Gonzales, MFA, has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than three decades of excellence in higher education, art and design, Mr. Gonzales has earned distinction as a professor of art and head of graphic design for the University of Alaska Anchorage. Since 1988, he has focused his efforts on coordinating illustration and printmaking for the department and has taught foundation, photography, digital arts, metalsmithing, sculpture and painting courses. He also teaches computer art, digital design and advanced level of graphic design. Additionally, he is a valued member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths, the American Institute of Graphic Arts and the Alaska Metal Arts Guild.

Before his present role, Mr. Gonzales joined the University of Alaska Anchorage as an associate professor and was promoted to an assistant professor shortly thereafter. He also served as a department chair for the University of Alaska in 1989 and from 2005 until 2012. With his many professional accomplishments, he received an Excellence in Photography Award from the Alaska Photographic Society in 2004 and was named an Outstanding Individual Artist at the Anchorage Mayor’s Awards for the Arts in 2010. Added to these, he established the highly-regarded metalsmithing and computer art programs at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Among his many artistic works throughout his career, Mr. Gonzales has had featured collections at the School of Business at University of Alaska Anchorage, the Anchorage Museum and the University of Alaska Fairbanks Museum. He held a solo exhibition in the Anchorage Museum and was a contributor for both “Fallen Down: Assembled in Alaska” in 1999 and “Icebreakers: Alaska’s Most Innovative Artists” in 2001.

To prepare for his professional journey, Mr. Gonzales earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Alaska Anchorage. Following this achievement, he attained a Master of Fine Arts in metal and jewelry arts from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1979.

Looking to the future, Mr. Gonzales intends to expand his reach and showcase his work to a wider audience, including participating in various exhibitions and shows outside of his current location with the aim of connecting with a larger and more diverse population.
