Dr. Schools-Cropper is an experienced public health expert affiliated with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Office of Minority Health, as a special assistant. Named to her position in 2021, she formerly served as a public health advisor and program analyst for the government administration. Recognized as a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the center is one of the world’s largest health care purchasers.

Leveraging her expertise as a visionary public health strategist and advisor with in-depth knowledge of health policy, global health, data analysis, maternal health, health equity, and other areas of the industry, Dr. Schools-Cropper focuses on developing practical, tactical, innovative solutions to complex public health issues that impact vulnerable and underserved populations.

Before joining the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Dr. Schools-Cropper was employed by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a program manager from 2010 to 2014 and as an administrative officer between 2007 and 2010. During an earlier stage of her career, she was a research assistant in the clinical laboratory at The Johns Hopkins University from 2002 to 2006. Throughout her impressive 20-year career in public health, Dr. Schools-Cropper has experienced success in clinical research, academic research, public health administration, and health policy research.

Looking toward future goals, Dr. Schools-Cropper is prepared to take on a new challenge and transition into a leadership role in maternal health. She is confident her work will significantly reduce health disparities in underrepresented populations.

Civically, Dr. Schools-Cropper has given back her time as a volunteer for the Baltimore Board Officials for Women’s Sports. She has also been a delegate student for the student advisory committee at her alma mater, Walden University.

Highly educated, Dr. Schools-Cropper received a bachelor’s degree in biology and biological sciences from Coppin State University, a Master of Public Health from Morgan State University, and a Doctor of Public Health with a focus on maternal and child health from Walden University. Well abreast in her industry, she remains active as a member of the American Public Health Association and the National Association of Doctors of Public Health. In February 2023, she was appointed to the Executive Board of the Meningioma Brain Tumor Network, Inc. to improve the quality of life for meningioma survivors/thrivers and their families.

In light of her hard work, Dr. Schools-Cropper has received several honors, including CMS Honor Awards for the Execution of a Major Project in 2015, Empowering Patients in 2020, Program Impact in 2021, and Assuring Health Equity in 2021. Additionally, Dr. Schools-Cropper received an NIH Director’s Award for organizing the Sub-Saharan Africa Grant Writing and Peer Review Workshop hosted in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2014.
