His expertise extends to property management, with a particular focus on commercial sales and overseeing full-time agents. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Lane has served as budget and finance chair for eight years with the National Association of Real Estate Brokers.
Proud to have built a wealth of trust within the local community, Mr. Lane previously spent three years working in rehabilitation and counseling, assisting individuals with various disabilities. He began his professional journey at Goodwill Industries in Racine, Wisconsin, and later at Morgan Memorial, the Goodwill operation in Boston. In 1969, he relocated to Nashville, where he played a pivotal role in setting up the Office of Minority Business Enterprise for the governor. This experience laid the foundation for his transition into real estate, where he has thrived for 35 years.
Mr. Lane’s educational background has significantly contributed to his success, equipping him with a robust understanding of business practices and human behavior, which he applies daily in his real estate endeavors. Initially earning a Bachelor of Science in recreation administration from Southern University in 1964, he went on to receive a Master of Science in counseling and behavioral studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1966 and a Master of Business Administration in finance and financial management services from the Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management in 1972.
Mr. Lane’s civic engagement extends beyond his professional life. In addition to his membership with the NAACP and the Middle Tennessee Community Coalition for Communication, he is a board member of the CP Foundation Scholarship Fund in Florida, and he served on the Metro Transit Board in Nashville. Also, he served as a member of the Metro Social Service Agency, Metro Traffic and Parking Commission, and the Solid Waste Regional Board & Recycling Commission. Outside of his career, Mr. Lane enjoys gardening and spending time with his family. As he prepares to hand over leadership of ABL Realty Services to his son and assistant, he remains committed to staying involved in sales and supporting ongoing education and property management within the company. Furthermore, he is a member in the Bordeux Business Coalition that promotes ownership for small businesses, particularly black-owned businesses, by providing education and resources on financing, legal matters, administration, and more.
Mr. Lane attributes his success to the values instilled by his family—hard work and basic business practices—which have guided him throughout his career. Despite facing challenges as a Black developer, he continues to work diligently every day, including Saturdays, with no plans for retirement but rather a focus on contributing to his family, friends, relatives and community.
