A distinguished real estate, construction, design, and workplace strategy expert, Mr. Donev has been the head of design, construction and workplace strategy for the Americas at IBM since 2022. In this role, he manages and leads his team, oversees capital planning, project design and execution, reporting, evaluates key performance indicators and navigates the complexities of a sophisticated matrix organization. His tenure at IBM has been marked by significant achievements, including the construction of their new enterprise hub in New York City at One Madison Avenue, a project spanning approximately 260,000 square feet, and overseeing the delivery of the quantum system 2 laboratory project for IBM. This latter project involved developing and constructing infrastructure for IBM’s quantum computing efforts in a data center environment.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Donev was vice president, project and development services at Jones Lang LaSalle IP Inc. from 2018 to 2022. During this period, he played a pivotal role in the reconstruction and renovation of the observatory at the Empire State Building. Before that, he served as project management, design and construction team lead at Jones Lang LaSalle IP Inc. from 2016 to 2018. His career with the company began in 2014 as a project manager and senior project manager.
Mr. Donev’s professional journey commenced with roles such as project manager in owner’s representation at Macro Consultants LLC from 2011 to 2014 and faculty adviser assistant at Fairleigh Dickinson University from 2009 to 2011. He worked as a staff engineer, project manager, and estimator at APS Contracting Inc. and as a counterintelligence agent at Best Buy between 2008 and 2011.
Mr. Donev earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2011. He is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration at Longwood University. His educational background has been instrumental in his career achievements, providing him with a solid foundation in engineering principles and business acumen.
Mr. Donev’s professional credentials include certifications such as a master of corporate real estate from CoreNet Global and a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt from AIGPE™. These certifications have enhanced his expertise in corporate real estate management and process improvement strategies. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Donev is actively involved in civic initiatives such as river and beach cleanup efforts. He has been recognized with awards, including the Emerging Leader from Jones Lang LaSalle IP Inc., and he was named one of Commercial Observer’s “20 Under 35.”
Mr. Donev attributes his success to perseverance, emphasizing that failure is not an end but an opportunity to learn and grow. This mindset has been integral to his achievements and continues to drive him forward in his professional endeavors. Outside his career, Mr. Donev enjoys playing soccer, volleyball and basketball, as well as singing and playing guitar. He cherishes spending time with his two daughters and traveling with his wife. Looking ahead, he is eager to contribute to IBM’s legacy in quantum computing by providing space for quantum computers.
