Since 2019, she has been associated with the prestigious Harvard University, where she works in conjunction with the internal medicine practice and serves as an urgent care nurse. Additionally, Ms. Shanning holds the distinct roles of charge nurse and special projects coordinator, focusing on patient and staff education.
Ms. Shanning’s academic training provided a solid foundation for her professional pursuits. She began coursework in finance and psychology at Campbell University in 1983 before earning an associate degree in nursing from Massachusetts Bay Community College in 1991. She worked as an emergency department RN at Tufts Medical Center from 2002 to 2004 and at Winchester Hospital from 2004 to 2011 before later accepting the leadership role of assistant nurse manager in the emergency department at Newton-Wellesley Hospital from 2012 to 2014. She also thrived as an RN in the emergency department at Emerson Hospital from 2015 to 2016, and Ms. Shanning committed to a broad patient base as an emergency room RN with Cambridge Health Alliance from 2016 to 2018. Alongside these important health care service appointments, Ms. Shanning has concurrently excelled as the leader of a small business by serving as the owner of Home Spa Designs since 2006.
Ms. Shanning’s professional affiliations have provided her with numerous opportunities for growth and development within the field of nursing. She has been a member of the Massachusetts Nurses Association since 2009 and the Emergency Nurses Association since 2000, and she remains actively involved in civic organizations, including the Boston Food Bank, Pine Street Inn, her local church and the St. Jude Research Foundation.
Throughout her career, Ms. Shanning has received several accolades, including the Highest of Five Award and the Team Excellence Award for Boston Marathon Day from Executive Management NWH in 2012, recognitions that reflect her dedication to the profession.
