From 2017 to 2023, Mr. Machi was the food nutrition services and warehouse director at Mount Diablo Unified School District. During this time, he transitioned the district from serving ultra-processed foods to preparing fresh, scratch-cooked meals at the school level. This achievement was recognized when the district became the first in the U.S. to receive certification from Eat Real, a nonprofit organization focused on improving the supply chain and promoting healthier eating for K-12 students.
Prior to his tenure at Mount Diablo Unified School District, Mr. Machi was the director of student nutrition services at Davis Joint Unified School District between 2013 and 2017. In this role, he laid the groundwork for his future initiatives by emphasizing the importance of nutritious meals for students and implementing programs that prioritized fresh ingredients over processed foods.
Mr. Machi’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in dietetics and food administration from California State University in Chico in 1990. His academic training provided him with a solid foundation in nutrition and food management, which has been instrumental in his career achievements. Influenced by great teachers and mentor chefs, including Chef Paul Bermani and Chef Michele Martin, Mr. Machi developed a passion for cooking and a strong work ethic that has driven his professional success.
Active in his professional community, Mr. Machi is a member of the California School Nutrition Association and the Disciples of Escoffier International Society. This involvement reflects his dedication to advancing culinary standards and education.
As he looks to the future, Mr. Machi aims to expand Dos Pisano’s Inc. beyond California, providing healthy food options for school children across other states.
