Ms. Carnes has dedicated over 45 years to her diverse career, culminating in her role as an education consultant with Scholastic Inc. until 2010. Throughout her career, she was instrumental in training teachers nationally and internationally, helping them as they prepare for the future within the classroom setting. Before and during her tenure at Scholastic Inc., Ms. Carnes was the Western Sales Manager for Internet Educational Programs also at MacMillan Publishing and Ideal Learning. Additionally, she found success as an education consultant for Macmillan Publishers, spent over a decade as a choir director, devoted over four decades to working as a genealogist, and served as a liaison for music students at her alma mater, Midwestern State University, where she played a pivotal role in guiding students toward successful careers in the arts.

In preparation for her career, Ms. Carnes earned a Bachelor of Music Education, summa cum laude, from Midwestern State University in 1969. In light of her success, Ms. Carnes was recognized by Who’s Who in American Universities. She was an Oxford music scholar, President of Mu Phi Epsilon, and Alpha Chi. She continued her studies at Midwestern State University, earning a Master of Music Education in 1972. Ms. Carnes also completed coursework toward a doctorate. Moreover, she earned a designation as a certified genealogist through the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Ms. Carnes’s academic achievements have significantly contributed to her success in various educational roles and her ability to train and inspire others.

Ms. Carnes is also deeply involved in several industry-related organizations. She is active with four genealogical societies and has worked with them at the chapter and state levels. Civically, Ms. Carnes holds positions such as state lineage research vice chair for Texas with DAR, president of the Chapter Regents Club within the same organization, and treasurer of Colonial Dames 17th Century. Furthermore, she has served as a registrar and regent of DAR chapters and chaplain of the Daughters of the War of 1812. She has notably assisted over 100 young ladies in becoming members of DAR. Among other involvement, Ms. Carnes participates in church and nursing home community events, teaches Bible study classes, supports prison ministry initiatives, serves food at homeless shelters, and contributes to Heifer International.

In light of her success, Ms. Carnes was recognized by Macmillan Publishers with an Outstanding Consultant Award. She attributes her success to her dedication to helping others attain their goals, a principle that has guided her throughout her career and continues to influence her current endeavors.
