Well-regarded for over 25 years of experience in health policy and advocacy, with a focus on employee benefits, nonprofit management and congressional engagement, Ms. Trautwein has most recently found success as an executive with Warner Pacific, a large national general agency specializing in health insurance and employee benefits plans. In this capacity, she wields a wealth of expertise, advising on compliance issues and pending legislation and regulation, large employer health plan issues, and industry education. Her role at Warner Pacific involves overseeing compliance for the organization’s extensive network of brokers and their clients. Ms. Trautwein is also responsible for conducting a webinars and other educational presentations to educate broker partners on compliance and other industry issues with training programs that enable individuals to earn continuing education credits.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Trautwein was the chief executive officer of the National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals from 1997 to 2023. During her tenure, she was known for her collaborative efforts with members of the U.S. Congress and multiple presidential administrations. She was appointed to the transition advisory team of President George W. Bush in 2001 where she was responsible for assisting cabinet appointees with Senate confirmation.

During the Bush administration she was also appointed to the White House Conference on Aging and was instrumental in the development of the Medicare prescription drug program. She has testified before Congress numerous times and been published in many national and regional publications on health policy issues including in the prestigious health policy journal, Health Affairs. Prior to coming to NABIP, Janet was an employee benefits broker in Austin, Texas specializing in large employer and political organization health plans, where she honed her skills in the industry.

Ms. Trautwein is a member of several relevant organizations, including the National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals, and the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers, where she serves on the Council of Employee Benefits Executives. Her memberships reflect her commitment to her profession and her desire to stay abreast of industry developments. Additionally, her editorial influence is recognized through impactful op-eds in major outlets and her public speaking engagements are noted for eloquent discourse on legislative and regulatory matters.

Building upon a solid academic foundation, Ms. Trautwein earned a bachelor’s degree in government and international affairs from George Mason University, where she graduated, summa cum laude. Following this accomplishment, she studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science, from which she received a master’s degree in health economics, policy, and management. Extensively qualified in her field, her certifications include being a Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC), along with additional certifications in Self-funding, Advanced Self-funding, the Affordable Care Act, Consumer Directed Healthcare, and Corporate Wellness Programs, which have contributed significantly to her professional achievements.

Ms. Trautwein attributes her success to several key qualities: attentive listening skills that allow for deeper understanding of others’ perspectives; meticulous organizational skills that ensure accountability; discretion in handling confidential information; respect for all individuals; and an unwavering work ethic that has propelled her through a male-dominated industry.

Outside of her professional life, Ms. Trautwein is a generous donor to Doctors Without Borders, recognizing that the healthcare services available in the United States are not easily accessed in many parts of the world. She received the Harold R. Gordon Memorial Award for Health Insurance Person of the Year in 2004. She is also a recipient of the Hollis Roberson Award for Insurance Person of the Year from the Texas Association of Health Underwriters.

When she is not working, Ms. Trautwein enjoys cooking, swimming, international travel, and spending quality time with her family. She finds great joy in her role at Warner Pacific Insurance Services and envisions remaining with the company until retirement, relishing in its vibrant culture and collaborative environment while contributing to its growth with her wealth of knowledge and experience.
