    COLDSPRING, TX, July 08, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Joanne D. Oliver-Colemane, MBA-HM, BSN, RN, CNOR(E), has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who. Having worked in health care for more than six decades, Ms. Oliver-Coleman has become a natural leader in the field, serving as president of Healthcare Resources since 2002. Though she retired from full-time work in 2013, she remains active with Healthcare Resources, working on advocacy and legislation related to her field. Ms. Oliver-Coleman works closely with the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), an organization she has been a member of since 1962. She has chaired AORN’s Legacy Nurse Task Force and other local and state legislative committees. Ms. Oliver-Coleman has also devoted a significant portion of her retirement to mentorship, assisting hundreds of young nurses in advancing their careers.

Throughout most of her professional life, Ms. Oliver-Coleman was focused on supporting operating room care. As the director of partner development at Validare and the president of Surgical Enterprises, she consulted with nurses and hospitals regarding software used in operating rooms and provided marketing and sales support. Ms. Oliver-Coleman spent 15 years as a consultant, both independently and with McKesson, demonstrating her insight on integrating computerization into nursing effectively. For nearly 20 years, she was director of the Diagnostic Center Hospital’s operating rooms, recovery rooms, and outpatient surgery departments. Her career began at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, where she was appointed head nurse of cardiovascular services only three months after graduating—a reflection of how quickly she was recognized as a trustworthy leader in health care.

Ms. Oliver-Coleman’s success was built on a solid academic foundation. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston’s School of Nursing in 1962. Dedicated to lifelong learning, Ms. Oliver-Coleman earned a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management from Western Governors University in 2024. In addition to being a registered nurse, she has completed certification as an operating room nurse and an operating room nurse educator from the Competency & Credentialing Institute. Ms. Oliver-Coleman credits her success to persistence, support from her family and other people in her life, her ability to listen, and a perpetual stream of motivation.

In addition to her lengthy tenure with the AORN, Ms. Oliver-Coleman has demonstrated her commitment to her field by engaging with numerous industry-related groups. She maintains active membership in the Texas Collaboration of periOperative Registered Nurses, the Federation of Houston Professional Women, the Texas Nurses Association, and the Nursing Legislative Agenda Coalition. Across these organizations, Ms. Oliver-Coleman has held various committee chairs and advisory positions and has served on several professional boards.

Ms. Oliver-Coleman has also shared her knowledge through many speeches, presentations, and articles in esteemed journals such as the AORN Journal and the Journal of Professional Nursing. Her contributions to the nursing field have been celebrated with many accolades. Ms. Oliver-Coleman received an Excellence Award from the Federation of Houston Professional Women in 1992 and the Legacy Nurse Award in 2023, the Woman Executive Award in 2014, the Jerry G. Peers Award in 2022, the Award for Excellence from the Texas Nurses Association in 2018, and the Perioperative Nurse of the Year Award for Excellence, among others.

Looking to the future, Ms. Oliver-Coleman hopes to focus even more on writing and mentoring the next generation of nurses. She finds great fulfillment in helping young nurses reach their full potential and wants to instill the value of contributing to such an important field. Ms. Oliver-Coleman intends to continue providing her expertise to AORN, building on an established legacy of improving and advocating for her profession.
