In this role, he builds governance functions within the architecture practice, leveraging his extensive corporate, technology acumen and architectural governance expertise. Mr. Cosmas’s career spans over three decades and has been marked by significant contributions to various high-profile organizations.
In addition to his achievements at BNY, Mr. Cosmas is the founder of a company that facilitates employment opportunities in highly specialized fields. This company operates with two distinct divisions: one that focuses on placing individuals with distinguished doctoral and master’s degrees who face challenges securing employment, and the other that provides support staff such as administrators and junior project managers. This innovative setup allows for forming expert teams capable of tackling special projects involving innovative providers like Oracle, IBM, and Microsoft.
Before being recruited by BNY, Mr. Cosmas was an enterprise architect for machine learning supervisory at Citi, serving the risk, mortgage, and compliance domains from 2021 to 2022. He also held the role of architect practice manager at Fiserv, where he was influential in building and managing the architecture practice with an operational eGRC between 2020 and 2021. From 2018 to 2019, he served as an enterprise architect in delivery management at Wells Fargo Bank, where he also built an architectural practice integrated with an eGRC created from scratch. Previously, Mr. Cosmas’s tenure at Bank of America included roles as a solutions architect from 2016 to 2017 where he managed a major transformation, a portfolio architect for legal compliance and regulatory relations from 2014 to 2015 delivering another architecture practice, and a technology manager at Bank of America from 2011 to 2013. He also worked as a technical lead at Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated between 2013 and 2014. He has reported directly to senior executives, CROs, CIOs, and CTOs, serving their strategic business needs while offering sound advice on critical initiatives and assisting in complex acquisitions and divestitures.
Mr. Cosmas’s career began in 1999 when he joined Bellsouth Technology Services, directing a few of its high-profile programs. Subsequently, he succeeded in diverse roles with Albion International, Entergy, Lawex, and JEATZ.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Cosmas received a Bachelor of Science in management with a focus on international law and policies from Royal College in 1994, an associate degree in management of information services from Jefferson State Community College in 1996, and a Bachelor of Science in computer science from the University of Alabama in 1999.
Mr. Cosmas is actively involved in civic activities outside his professional life. He has been a director for his local Knights of Columbus since 2002. He also volunteers as a liturgical photographer for the Greek Orthodox Church of America, and various Catholic dioceses, with focused interests in social and charitable programs. His passion includes efforts concerning healthcare, food insecurity, school supplies, and programs to build homes for the less fortunate in local communities. These endeavors reflect Mr. Cosmas’s commitment to giving back and positively impacting society. He also strongly advocates ecumenical initiatives that help various groups to draw closer to serving the community.
Mr. Cosmas believes success is measured by how well we care for our people. He is determined to work with companies to improve their governance, establish on-site governance offices, and implement awareness and socioeconomic programs such as school lunch initiatives and academic endowments. He has created and sponsored a few programs to benefit people from diverse global backgrounds, often serving as a mentor.
