Prior to his current focus on strategic planning, Dr. Currin held several notable positions in the fields of government and academia. From 2006 to 2009, he was the special assistant for congressional research and director of the legislative support team at the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs. His tenure at the Executive Office of the President as director of fact-checking from 2003 to 2006 was marked by significant contributions to presidential speechwriting. Additionally, Dr. Currin imparted knowledge as an adjunct professor of history at Glendale Community College in 2003 and was involved in historical research at Arizona State University’s Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies in 2002.

Cementing his academic foundation, Dr. Currin earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Minnesota in 1995 after completing a master’s degree at Arizona State University in 1984 and a bachelor’s degree in history, with honors, from the University of Arizona in 1981. His academic pursuits have significantly contributed to his professional achievements and recognition as an authority on Henry VII’s foreign policy. The encouragement and example set by his parents, especially his father’s passion for history and emphasis on discipline and study, have been instrumental in shaping his success.

Dr. Currin is also an accomplished author with 14 publications to his credit. His scholarly work has garnered attention within the historical community, particularly his research on Henry VII, which has influenced contemporary perspectives on foreign policy. This research was notably cited in David Wildman’s book “Tudor Empire,” further solidifying Dr. Currin’s impact on historical scholarship. Outside of his professional life, Dr. Currin harbors a passion for writing and is dedicated to completing a comprehensive book about Henry VII’s foreign policy. The project is ambitious, with plans for a second volume following his retirement. His commitment to historical inquiry remains unwavering as he looks forward to dedicating more time to this endeavor.

In recognition of his exceptional service, Dr. Currin was awarded the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service in 2009.
