Ms. Smith is a highly accomplished professional who has been affiliated with Southern Company in Atlanta, Georgia, as a Senior Project controls cost analyst since 2015. Specializing in cost control for over two decades, she has played a critical role in the organization’s success, overseeing and tracking the cost coordination for multiple retrofit/demolition/CCR projects across Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky and Texas. Based in Atlanta, the utility company and its subsidiaries deliver clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy daily to its nine million customers.

Before joining Southern Company, Ms. Smith was a cost representative with Zachry Industrial Inc. in Sweeny, Texas, a senior projects’ controls financial analyst for the Tennessee Valley Authority in Drakesboro, Kentucky, and, among other leading roles, was a senior finance analyst for Starcon International Inc. in Texas City, Texas. Outside the field, Ms. Smith owned her own business, Wayne’s Place & Coop’s Diner in Dunmor, Kentucky, for over five years as its general manager.

Recognizing her achievements, Ms. Smith notes her remarkable problem-solving skills and ability to learn others’ personalities to achieve a more cohesive environment. She also notes her father’s impression on her while coming of age. As a successful business owner for many years, he taught her many valuable life lessons that she never would have learned in school, including the importance of treating others with respect and how to bounce back after setbacks. Ms. Smith’s mother was also a great source of support for her.

Looking toward future success, Ms. Smith aims to continue excelling in her field. Her ultimate goal is to become a vice president for an organization in her field where she can leverage her expertise and make a more significant impact.

Active civically, Ms. Smith enjoys giving back to worthy causes. Most notably, she has been affiliated with Ronald McDonald House Charities, a nonprofit organization that creates and supports programs that improve the health and well-being of children.

Highly educated, Ms. Smith received an undergraduate degree in organizational/management leadership from Mountain State University in 2004 and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2010, plus accomplishing Chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success, Sigma Alpha PI.
