Following her tenure as a chemist, Ms. Balster was affiliated with the University of Dayton Research Institute, marking significant milestones in her career as she evolved from an assistant research chemist in 2000 to an associate research chemist by 2005 and a research chemist between 2005 and 2013. During this period, Ms. Balster contributed significantly to projects as a U.S. Department of Defense contractor. Additionally, Ms. Balster had the opportunity to impart knowledge as an adjunct general chemistry laboratory instructor at the University of Dayton during the 2013-2014 academic school year.
Throughout her research career, Ms. Balster has focused on testing jet fuel thermal stability. This involved measuring the fuel’s ability to maintain its structural integrity when subjected to high temperatures. As such, she devised a method for detecting the component responsible for thermal stability behavior using a combination of high-performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Ms. Balster also conducted work on the development of methods for polar species.
Ms. Balster’s academic background is equally impressive, holding both a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry and English and a Master of Arts in English language and literature from the University of Dayton in 1994 and 2010, respectively. Her Six Sigma White Belt certification further exemplifies her commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
Adding to her credentials, Ms. Balster is a professional member of the American Chemical Society. She is also active with American Mensa.
