Before establishing Great Wildlife Photos, Ms. Starnes was an EHP advisor for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from 2008 to 2014. In this role, she provided environmental and historic preservation guidance during disaster recovery efforts. Additionally, Ms. Starnes worked as a reservist for FEMA between 2006 and 2014, contributing to various emergency response operations.
Ms. Starnes’s career began with a strong foundation in aquatic ecology. From 1984 to 2006, she worked as an aquatic ecologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, where she conducted research and developed conservation strategies for aquatic ecosystems. Ms. Starnes’s earlier years included serving as a biologist for the Tennessee Valley Authority in Norris and Knoxville, Tennessee, between 1974 and 1984, focusing on environmental assessments and ecological studies.
Highly educated, Ms. Starnes’s academic background includes an undergraduate degree in zoology from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1972 and a Master of Science in aquatic ecology on campus in 1976. She is also a registered fisheries scientist with the American Fisheries Society, a certification that underscores her expertise in the field.

Ms. Starnes attributes her success to the values instilled by her grandparents, whose immigrant background taught her the importance of adaptability and hard work. These values have significantly influenced her work ethic and sense of responsibility throughout her career.
Enthusiastic about her future artistic endeavors, Ms. Starnes is planning an art show titled “Romancing the West” that will feature 20 artists and over 15 gourmet chefs.
