Mr. Pew is a distinguished professional in the field of workers’ compensation, serving as the Provost and founding partner of WorkCompCollege.com since 2022. He is also the principal of The RxProfessor, a role he has held since 2021. Mr. Pew’s career spans over three decades in work comp, during which he has made significant contributions to the industry through various leadership roles and innovative initiatives.

Mr. Pew began his career in information technology, working at Equifax then ChoicePoint from 1980 to 2000. He subsequently transitioned full-time into the workers’ compensation field with PRIUM, a utilization management company, where he was instrumental in addressing the overprescribing of opioids to injured workers. His efforts in this area earned him recognition as one of the earliest industry leaders tackling this critical issue and a Business Insurance Innovation Award in 2012. From 2018 to 2021, Mr. Pew served as senior vice president of product development and marketing at The Preferred Medical, a work comp PBM, where he continued to advocate for best practices in treatment for chronic pain.

He was an early advocate for a biopsychosocial treatment model in 2010, recognized the growing dilemma in 2014 that medical cannabis would present the industry, and helped jurisdictions adopt evidence-based drug formularies. Since 2020 he has been engaged in addressing the talent crisis by promoting professional development as a recruitment and retention tool.

His work has been recognized from outside the industry with the Health 2.0 Outstanding Leadership Award in 2022 and the Top 100 Healthcare Leader award from IFAH in 2021. He also received two prestigious industry awards, the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC) Samuel Gompers award in 2017 and WorkCompCentral’s Magna Comp Laude award in 2016.

In addition to his primary roles, Mr. Pew has been an advisory board member for Harvard MedTech, Goldfinch Health, and SimpleTherapy. He is also a founding member of The Transitions and Advancing Advocacy. Additionally, he has been an active member of several relevant organizations, including the IAIABC’s medical issues committee, the work comp committee at the Self-Insurance Institute of America (SIIA), and the workplace issues and legal reform committee at the New Mexico Association of Commerce & Industry.

Mr. Pew is also a prolific speaker and author, having presented educational content over 700 times across the United States and internationally. While focused predominantly on the work comp industry, he has also spoken at events such as the National Rx Drug Abuse & Heroin Summit, the International Pain Summit and the Business Insurance Cannabis & Hemp conference. His publications include articles in Claim Management Magazine, Workers’ Compensation Magazine, WorkCompWire, WorkersCompensation.com, Risk & Insurance Magazine, Insurance Thought Leader and PC360 as well as an award-winning blog and a YouTube channel.
