From 2009 to 2018, he thrived as the deputy director of the veterans employment and education division at The American Legion, where he played a crucial role in advocating for homeless veterans along with veteran employment opportunities and educational benefits. Before accepting that position, Mr. Walker excelled as an assistant director at The American Legion from 2008 to 2009 and as a national appeals representative from 2006 to 2008.
In 2003, he proudly co-founded Grace Church and served as an associate pastor through 2004, demonstrating his commitment to community service, advocacy and leadership. Earlier in his career, Mr. Walker was a senior administrative manager at the Earl Paulk Institute from 2001 to 2003 and a teacher and youth director at Cathedral Academy from 1995 to 2003.
Mr. Walker is a proud veteran who served honorably in the United States Air Force as an inventory management specialist between 1989 and 1994. He also has exceptional academic credentials including a bachelor’s degree in theology from Earl Paulk Institute. Mr. Walker subsequently pursued a Master of Organizational Leadership from the University of Saint Francis and further enhanced his leadership skills by obtaining a certificate in transformative leadership from California State University, East Bay in 2022.
In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Walker remains committed to involvement in civic service. He co-founded Palimbo Community Development in the Philippines as well as the Modesta Garden Center. Additionally, he is a commissioner on homelessness for the city of Oakland and mentors children from the East Palo Alto Academy Foundation. He served as the chair of the advisory council for U.S. Vets in Washington D.C., and as an advisory committee member on homeless veterans for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Mr. Walker’s contributions have been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Jerald Washington Memorial Founders’ Award from the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans in 2018.
Mr. Walker achieves balance through personal interests that include spending time with his family, reading and traveling. Looking toward the future, he will continue his work with vulnerable veterans, aiming to help them become self-sufficient and gain stability, and Mr. Walker will persist in extending his reach by supporting agencies whose mission aligns with his vision.
