Ms. DeMoraes is an accomplished English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor with over two decades of experience in the field. Since 2011, she has served as an instructor at Houston Community College, where she has honed her skills in teaching non-native English speakers. Her journey in education began at Davis High School, where she taught from 2005 to 2008, laying the foundation for her future endeavors.
In addition to her role at Houston Community College since 2011, Ms. DeMoraes has been self-employed as an author since 2024. Her most notable work, “Noah and Na Go to the Beach,” is a children’s book designed for grade school students and ESL beginners, featuring comprehension questions throughout. This publication marks a significant milestone in her career, and she plans to continue writing more books in the future. Since 2021, she has also served as a yoga instructor, sharing her passion for wellness and mindfulness with others.
Ms. DeMoraes’ career includes freelance work as an online reading skills teacher. Over her nine years in the position, she has developed innovative methods to enhance literacy among diverse learners. Concurrently, she has been an online ESL teacher with VIPKid, providing personalized instruction to students worldwide. Her own academic achievements have played a crucial role in shaping her career, having earned a Master of Education in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Grand Canyon University in 2011. Prior to that, she completed a Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary studies and education at the University of Houston-Downtown in 2001. These educational accomplishments have equipped her with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in her field.
Reflecting on her career, Ms. DeMoraes attributes her success to her determination and self-motivation. Despite lacking external help, she worked exceptionally hard to reach her goals and is proud to have made a meaningful impact. In recognition of her contributions to education, she was nominated for the Faculty Teaching Staff Excellence Award in 2023, highlighting her excellence in teaching and dedication to student success.
Beyond her professional life, Ms. DeMoraes is actively involved in civic-minded organizations such as the Reading Cultural Committee and Reading Book Club at Houston Community College. She volunteers as a Southeast liaison with the Houston Citizen Police Academy and contributes her time to a local church and women’s club. Her dedication to community service reflects her commitment to making a positive impact beyond the classroom.
In her spare time, Ms. DeMoraes enjoys spending time with her family and engaging in activities such as yoga and cooking. She most enjoys being a mother, grandmother and wife. Looking ahead, she aspires to return to school to earn a doctorate in education while continuing to write books and develop new educational initiatives that will benefit learners worldwide.
