Dr. Juya is a distinguished professional with an extensive background in higher education administration, health and nonprofit industry. With a career spanning over two decades, he has made significant contributions to the educational landscape in Afghanistan and beyond. He currently serves as the associate executive director at Afghan Coalition, a nonprofit institution in North California empowering Afghan and other underserved communities in the Bay Area. He has also been serving as a co-founder and member of the board of trustees at Kahkashan-e-Sharq University and Kahkashan-e-Sharq Institute of Health Science, roles he has held since 2013. In these capacities, Dr. Juya has been instrumental in shaping the institutions’ strategic direction and fostering academic excellence.

Dr. Juya’s journey in education began with establishing the Herat-e-Bastan Training Center in 1998. Over 25 years, this institution educated more than 15,000 students before its closure in 2023. The center was renowned for being one of Afghanistan’s most significant training centers for language learners and translators. Dr. Juya’s success with this initiative laid the groundwork for founding other educational institutions, including the Union of Private Educational Centers (UPEC), Herat-e-Bastain Teacher Training Center, Kahkashan-e-Sharq University, the Kakashana Shark Institute of Health Science. In addition to his roles at these institutions, Dr. Juya founded the Afghanistan Center for Entrepreneurship and Development in 2021, serving as its president until 2022. His academic career included positions as a university lecturer at Swiss UMEF University of Afghanistan and Dunya University of Afghanistan from 2016 to 2019 and as a faculty lecturer at the Professional Development Institute at the American University of Afghanistan between 2019 and 2021. Earlier in his career, Dr. Juya was a teaching faculty assistant at Brandeis University from 2010 to 2011 and the program development director at Bakhtar Development Network between 2011 and 2012.

Dr. Juya’s academic credentials are extensive. He received a diploma from Enqelab High School in 2000, a Doctor of Medicine in internal medicine from Herat Medical Faculty of Herat University in 2008, a master’s degree in health and nonprofit administration from Brandeis University in 2011, and a Doctor of Philosophy in higher education administration from the University of North Texas in 2023. Moreover, Dr. Juya is fluent in English, Dari, and Pashto and has some proficiency in German, Arabic, and Urdu.

Adding to his professional success, Dr. Juya has been active as a member of the Association of International Educators, the American Association for the Study of Higher Education, the Mass Mentoring Partnership, Fulbright Organization and TechForum Central Asia. He is also deeply committed to civic engagement as a volunteer with the Mount Diablo Unified School District.

Throughout his career, Dr. Juya has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including two Fulbright scholarships, Entrepreneurship Awards, and multiple writing contest awards. He attributes his accomplishments to the invaluable opportunities Afghan and American educational institutions provided and the support from communities that embraced him.
