NORWELL, MA, May 31, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Michael J. Ventrice, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Ventrice is currently a senior quantitative meteorologist with DRW, a Chicago-based financial services company. In this role, he quantifies “weather risk” in the natural gas market and other commodity markets. Prior to his time with DRW, Dr. Ventrice worked as a meteorological scientist and software engineer for The Weather Company.

Weather has always played a role in Dr. Ventrice’s life, dating all the way back to his childhood growing up on Long Island. As a young boy, his passion for studying hurricanes was ignited when he witnessed the impact of Hurricane Bob on Long Island in 1991. The massive East Coast storm killed at least a dozen people and knocked out power to 2.1 million homes and businesses. As he delved deeper into the subject, his fascination with hurricanes grew, and he eventually decided to pursue a career in this field.

Another of Dr. Ventrice’s passions is sports, which led him to co-found the Sports Weather Analytics Group, also known as the Fantasy Football Weather Guys, a small group of degreed meteorologists who quantify the weather risk around professional and collegiate sports. Their initial focus had been on quantifying weather-driven fantasy football player data, but as sports betting has become widely legalized across the United States, the group has expanded efforts in aiding bettors to make smarter wagers when weather conditions could affect the outcomes of games.

Dr. Ventrice is a 2008 graduate of the State University of New York at Albany, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in atmospheric science and meteorology. He remained at the school for post-graduate work and earned a PhD in 2012, specializing in tropical Meteorology, sub-seasonal tropical cyclone prediction techniques, and tropical-extratropical interactions.

Noted for his achievements in the field, Dr. Ventrice has received several accolades over the course of his career. In addition to an Outstanding Technical Achievement Award, which he received from IBM in 2019, he has also earned an Energy Employee Recognition Award from WSI, the Max A. Eaton Prize from the American Meteorological Society in 2010, and recognition as the Residential Life Staff Member of the Year from SUNY Albany in 2007. Additionally, he was inducted into the honorable society of Omicron Delta Kappa.

A recognized expert in his field, Dr. Ventrice has co-authored several academic papers in various scholarly journals, including the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society and Monthly Weather Review. He has made television appearances on various outlets, including the Weather Channel, Al Jazeera America and Fox, discussing the weather and its effect on businesses.

In accounting for his success, Dr. Ventrice largely credits a combination of hard work, fortuitous opportunities, and his own capabilities as an analyst. Outside of his professional journey, he lives with his wife and daughter in Norwell, Massachusetts, where he enjoys playing baseball, and playing video games. Looking toward the future, he aims to become involved in academia and further develop his ideas for an analytical platform for sports based on weather, which has the potential to revolutionize the sports industry and provide valuable insights to athletes and coaches alike.
