Before accepting his current appointment, Mr. Tounzen thrives as a quality management representative at Corbion from 2021 to 2022. Mr. Tounzen also relies on valuable experience earned as a document control specialist with Corbion from 2017 to 2021, where he managed critical documentation processes that supported the company’s operational integrity.

Through his role as a laboratory technician at Corbion from 2016 to 2017, Mr. Tounzen capably applied his deep scientific knowledge in practical ways. Earlier in his career, he accepted positions that forged a solid foundation for his subsequent role, serving as a food safety quality assurance tech 2 at Tyson Foods from 2015 to 2016 and as a lab tech at Albaugh Inc. in 2015. Mr. Tounzen initiated his presence in the food industry as a CD scientist at Carvan Ingredients, now known as Corbion, from 2011 to 2012.

Exceptional academic credentials have also supported Mr. Tounzen’s presence in the field. He finished an associate degree at Johnson County Community College in 2009 before pursuing undergraduate studies in chemistry and biology at Park University and completing a bachelor’s degree in 2013. He also holds a master’s degree in food science from Kansas State University, which he proudly earned in 2021. Mr. Tounzen’s academic accomplishments are complemented by his certification as a preventive controls qualified individual, as designated by Kansas State University, which reflects his commitment to food safety and quality.

Mr. Tounzen’s passion for biology surfaced early on when he undertook an ambitious two-year research project during his undergraduate studies. His work on the home range and habitat analysis of gray squirrels living in urban environments, a project that integrated biological and geographical aspects using radio telemetry and geographic information systems, was subsequently published by the Missouri Academy of Science, and Mr. Tounzen is proud to be recognized as a published author in the field of biology.

Mr. Tounzen emphasizes the significance of a comprehensive education and perseverance, and he credits the positive influence of his mother, who was dedicated to homeschooling. He also credits an ability to reassess his objectives and then refocus his plan throughout his academic and career evolution, which was evidenced in his shift from biology to food science. Additionally, he remains committed to civic engagement and serves as an assistant dog trainer with 4-H Wyandotte County. He also achieves balance through running, ballroom dancing and playing video games.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Tounzen aims to progress into a managerial position within the food industry and to focus more specifically on food quality management. With extensive experience and a strong educational background, Mr. Tounzen senses he is well-prepared to leverage his broad skill set in critical roles that align with his aspirations for leadership and innovation in the field.
