Serving as the division chief of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at Mount Sinai Morningside and West since 2019, he oversees the endocrinology program across two hospital sites in Manhattan, New York. His leadership extends from Washington Heights and Harlem to midtown Manhattan, reflecting his significant influence in the region.

Before joining the Mount Sinai Health System, Dr. Goulden was an associate professor and diabetes program director at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences from 2012 to 2019. During this period, he co-led a $2.1 million grant to enhance diabetes care for an underserved community in Arkansas. His efforts in this role garnered national recognition in 2019 for their impact on diabetes care. Before his tenure in Arkansas, Dr. Goulden served as a consultant physician and endocrinologist at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, a substantial acute hospital trust in southeast England, between 2006 and 2012.

In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Goulden was a tutor for the Royal College of Physicians, responsible for the hospital’s training program. He also served as the regional and network chair for the West Kent diabetes program, focusing on improving local diabetes care.

Born in Keighley, Yorkshire, England, Dr. Goulden’s academic journey began with his medical training at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, where he earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1995. He completed a year-long internship at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and residency training in Birmingham. Dr. Goulden’s specialization in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism was further honed through fellowship training in London, culminating in 2006. Additionally, Dr. Goulden conducted two years of research at the Medical Research Council in England.

Highly qualified in his field, Dr. Goulden also holds several professional designations. He is board-certified in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism and is also board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He also holds a certification in high-impact leadership through Columbia Business School Executive Education.

In addition to his work-related endeavors, Dr. Goulden is actively involved with several industry-related organizations. He is an elected fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and holds memberships with the American Diabetes Association, the Endocrine Society, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Clinical Endocrinologists, among others. Dr. Goulden’s scholarly work includes serving on the editorial board of the Journal of Obesity and Chronic Diseases.
