Dr. Thwar Krishnan is Chief Executive Officer at Evolve Genomix, a provider of genomic technology services to the food and agriculture industry and other markets. A leader in the field of genomics and molecular diagnostics, he began his career began with foundational roles in research and development, starting as a graduate research assistant at Penn State University in the late 1990s and then at the University of Michigan until 2006. His expertise in microfluidics and assay development was further honed at Advanced Liquid Logic, where he progressed from a microfluidics applications engineer to a research and development engineer. As his career progressed, he went on to conduct research at Ion Torrent Systems, Life Technologies and Thermo Fisher Scientific before joining Clear Labs in 2019.

At Clear Labs, Dr. Thwar Krishnan served in escalating positions, from associate director to senior director. His technical acumen and leadership were instrumental during the COVID-19 pandemic when he guided the company’s pivot from a focus on the food industry to launching critical COVID testing technologies. Under his direction, Clear Labs developed a fully automated, sequencing-based COVID test that received emergency use authorization globally and a genome sequencing test for COVID introduced to the U.S. public health sector. Remarkably, more than 70 percent of state public health labs in the United States now utilize Clear Labs’ instruments.

Beyond his professional roles, Dr. Thwar Krishnan has contributed to the scientific community as a technical consultant for various companies, as a reviewer for the Microfluidics & Nanofluidics Journal, and as a founding member of the Microfluidics Consortium at the University of Michigan. His breadth of knowledge in genomics, molecular diagnostics, microfluidics, assay development and business strategy has led to Dr. Thwar Krishnan holding 21 patents for various technologies and being an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Chemical Society, and American Society for Microbiology.

Born in India, Dr. Thwar Krishnan earned a Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering from Anna University Chennai in 1999, where he graduated as valedictorian, before obtaining a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University in 2001. He completed his doctorate in Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan in 2007. His integrity, upbringing, passion for science and technology, and desire to give back to society have been pivotal to his success.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Thwar Krishnan is deeply involved in civic activities, supporting organizations such as an orphanage and an eye institute in India, the Ronald McDonald House in Palo Alto, local soup kitchens, and firefighters. He has been recognized with several awards, including the Governor’s Gold Medal from Tamilnadu, India; Outstanding Chemical Engineering Student Award from the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers; Best Poster Presentation Award from Penn State University; and a Rackham Graduate School Interdisciplinary Grant.

In his personal life, Dr. Thwar Krishnan enjoys spending time with his family & friends, exploring nature trails, reading leadership and personal help books, and watching documentaries and sports with his wife & son.
