Mr. Fountain is an esteemed attorney and expert in taxation who has made significant contributions to the legal and academic fields. He currently serves as the dean of the college of business at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, a position he has held since 2020. Before being named dean, Mr. Fountain was the chair of the University of West Florida from 2017 to 2020. His journey in academia began nearly a decade before, in 2009, when he accepted an adjunct position on campus. This led to a faculty position instructing tax accounting, tax law, and business law courses.

Before pivoting into academia, Mr. Fountain had an extensive and diverse legal practice, the Law Office of Richard M. Fountain. He began his career as a tax lawyer and quickly expanded to represent approximately 7,000 individuals. Mr. Fountain credits his remarkable success to the valuable mentorship of numerous people who guided him through life’s trials and tribulations.

Mr. Fountain’s educational background laid a strong foundation for his professional achievements. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in accounting from the University of West Florida in 1970, a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Mississippi in 1980, and a Master of Laws in taxation from the University of Florida in 1982.

Throughout his career, Mr. Fountain has received numerous accolades for his professional accomplishments. He was honored with the Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award from State College and received Professional Leadership Ace Awards from the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Fountain’s dedication to his profession is further evidenced by his membership on the board of directors for the Chamber of Commerce for Pensacola and his involvement with the Rotary Club.

Mr. Fountain’s legal experience enabled him to engage in various nonprofit work, including serving on the National Red Cross board and being involved with a national alcohol and drug board. He also contributed to approximately 30 nonprofit boards, finding immense fulfillment in these endeavors.
