As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Gupta, a distinguished neonatologist and voluntary teaching faculty member at the University of Central Florida, has dedicated more than four decades to reducing maternal and neonatal morbidity. His journey began in India, where he completed his medical education at Maulana Azad Medical School, University of Delhi, earning his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1979 and his Doctor of Medicine in obstetrics and gynecology in 1982. Motivated by the challenges mothers face during childbirth, he pursued an obstetrics and gynecology residency in India for four years before immigrating to the United States in 1983.

Upon arriving in the United States, Dr. Gupta trained as a pediatrician at the University of Iowa, completing his residency in 1987. He further specialized in neonatal-perinatal medicine through a fellowship at the same institution, graduating in 1990. His advanced training equipped him with the expertise to bring cutting-edge medical knowledge from tertiary university centers to community hospitals, significantly improving neonatal and maternal services.

Dr. Gupta’s professional journey is marked by several key roles. From 1990 to 1993, he served as a neonatologist and medical director of newborn services at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, where he established his first neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). He then joined St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, Illinois, where he worked as a newborn specialist, neonatologist, and medical director of newborn services from 1993 to 2013. During this period, he also held the position of chief medical officer from 2008 to 2010. His efforts led to a remarkable 42% reduction in neonatal mortality and complications of prematurity within the first three years of implementing his model.

In 2013, Dr. Gupta relocated to Gainesville, Florida, where he continued his impactful work by starting a NICU at North Florida Hospital while serving as a neonatologist and medical director with Envision Healthcare until 2018. He then joined AdventHealth as a neonatologist from 2018 to 2020. Since 2021, he has been serving as a medical service officer at Mathew’s Hope Ministries, a homeless service center, while also contributing as a voluntary teaching faculty member at the University of Central Florida since 2015.

Dr. Gupta attributes much of his success to his parents, both of whom were teachers determined to provide their children with an education. As a result, he excelled academically and developed a deep passion for the health care profession. He is also actively involved with several civic-minded organizations, including the Winter Garden Rotary Club and Rotary International. He serves on the board of March of Dimes and contributes to Mathew’s Hope Ministries. His efforts have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Distinguished Service Award from the Scrivner Foundation in 2010 and Excellence in Pediatric Care from the Illinois Department of Health in 2006.

In his personal life, Dr. Gupta enjoys learning and reading during his leisure time. Moving forward, he remains committed to pursuing his passion for improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes. Despite challenges such as politics, financing, and marketing that are beyond his control, he is proud of his professional achievements and remains open to further opportunities for making a positive impact on society and serving humanity.
