Ms. Chapman Bacerra is a distinguished expert in learning and development and intersectional justice. Since 2021, she has been the founder and chief executive officer of Trailblazing in Color, a consulting and coaching firm focused on intentionally shaping cultures, systems and individuals to advance pay equity, gender parity and racial justice. In her role, she has facilitated strategic planning sessions with executive leadership teams and college deans, demonstrating her expertise in strategic planning and organizational culture for social impact organizations. Ms. Chapman Bacerra’s entrepreneurial journey with Trailblazing in Color marks a significant milestone, showcasing her successful leadership and commitment to fostering inclusive environments.

In addition to her leading role at Trailblazing in Color, Ms. Chapman Bacerra began serving as a senior consultant and coach at FranklinCovey in 2021, a world leader in helping organizations achieve results that require lasting changes in human behavior. Moreover, she has been serving as the chief learning officer and council member at The Center for Respectful Leadership, a nonprofit educational organization committed to supporting leadership and organizational transformation, since 2022. Ms. Chapman Bacerra previously served as the center’s director of learning and development from 2020 to 2022.

Ms. Chapman Bacerra’s career is marked by previous impactful roles. She was a consulting member at The Upside, where she contributed her extensive knowledge in learning and development. She also worked as a learning and development manager at Soapy Joe’s Inc. and held several positions at ELM Learning between 2018 and 2020, including senior learning experience designer and head of learning architecture. Ms. Chapman Bacerra’s career dates back to 2009, when Bridgepoint Education acquired her as a learning and development specialist.

Ms. Chapman Bacerra’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in media studies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Arts in organizational management with a specialization in human resources from Ashford University. She also holds several professional certifications, such as a qualified administrator for the Intercultural Development Inventory by IDI LLC, DISC certification, and, among other designations, certification as a high-performance coach through the High Performance Institute.

As an active member of her professional community, Ms. Chapman Bacerra is affiliated with the San Diego Business Association and the National Association of Women Business Owners.

Besides her work-related initiatives, Ms. Chapman Bacerra has been active civically as a programming advisor for The Afara Collective and an advisory council member for The Center for Respectful Leadership since 2019. She has also served as the programming advisor for The Afara Collective since 2021. Furthermore, Ms. Chapman Bacerra is a charter member, secretary and treasury for Toastmasters International.

Ms. Chapman Bacerra’s professional and community engagement has been recognized through numerous awards. Among them, she was honored with the Heilbron Award for Outstanding Service to the Community by San Diego Business Journal and San Diego Rotary Club 33 in 2013. Ms. Chapman Bacerra was later named Woman of Influence by the San Diego Metro in 2020, received the Inclusion 1st Ally Award by Inclusion 1st Project in 2021, was named a San Diego Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Finalist in 2021 and was honored as the LGBTQ Leaders of Influence by San Diego Business Journal in 2024.

Eager to further develop Trailblazing in Color, Ms. Chapman Bacerra envisions expanding its scope, building a team of consultants, and transforming it into an agency that brings about positive change.
