    BUFFALO, NY, August 16, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Sarbajit Mukherjee, MD, MS has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who. Dr. Mukherjee is an experienced gastrointestinal (GI) medical oncologist and the co-leader of the GI translational research group at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York. He has served as an associate professor at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center since 2024, where he has been a faculty member since 2018. Dr. Mukherjee’s expertise is further recognized through his position as the chair of the gastrointestinal translational research group at the Oncology Research Information Exchange Network (ORIEN) since 2024 and the co-chair of the GI clinical trial working group at the Hoosier Cancer Research Network since 2023.

Dr. Mukherjee’s academic journey began with an MBBS from Nilratan Sircar Medical College in India in 2010. Subsequently, he completed a residency at Saint Joseph Hospital in Chicago from 2012 to 2015. Dr. Mukherjee then pursued a fellowship in hematology-oncology at the University of Oklahoma. While at the university, he also completed a Master of Science in clinical and translational science in 2018. He holds medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine certifications through the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Mukherjee’s passion for cancer research was ignited during his residency program when he discovered his intense attraction to cancer biology. Inspired by Dr. Xavier Llor’s lecture on hereditary colon cancer, he pursued opportunities at his lab that allowed him to combine gastroenterology with oncology. After that, Dr. Mukherjee spent several years as a researcher with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation between 2016 and 2018. He also contributed to academia as a visiting scholar at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, New York, in 2022.

Throughout his career, Dr. Mukherjee has been actively involved with various organizations. He has served on the quality subcommittee for the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer and has been a member of the scientific review committee for the North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (NANETS). Additionally, Dr. Mukherjee has been a board member of the Esophageal Cancer Action Network since 2018. His contributions extend to being a guidelines panel member for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and the International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus and serving on several committees within the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

Dr. Mukherjee’s dedication to his field has earned him numerous accolades, including membership in Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He also received a merit award from the ASCO in 2018 and the Young Investigator Award from the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) in 2021. Dr. Mukherjee attributes his success to continually striving to do his best and being surrounded by dedicated colleagues who inspire him.

Dr. Mukherjee’s current work focuses on novel clinical trials in GI malignancies. He has conducted multiple investigator-initiated clinical trials as a principal investigator. Dr. Mukherjee has received peer-reviewed grants from the Department of Defense, NCCN, and NANETS. He has presented at many national and international conferences and published in high-impact journals. He has served on grant review panels through the NIH (National Institutes of Health) and FDA.

Looking ahead, Dr. Mukherjee aims to assume greater responsibilities within his field. As the leader of the gastrointestinal translational research group at Roswell Park, he plans to develop resources for colleagues and collaborate with other organizations to advance critical research areas. He also aims to conduct research and establish an infrastructure that enables others interested in this field to learn and progress.
