Mr. VonFeldt is a distinguished professional in the field of capital programs and construction management, currently serving as the program manager for program management/controls support services at LA Metro under Triunity (a Lochner company) since 2017. In this capacity, he plays a pivotal role in overseeing the largest capital program in Los Angeles, which includes projects valued at $26 billion currently under construction and an additional $120+ billion worth of projects planned for the future. His work now focuses on integrating the United States high-speed rail initiative with improvements to interstate highways, national ports, and aviation airport infrastructure, ensuring alignment with the evolution of electronic vehicle and aircraft technology.
Prior to his current role, Mr. VonFeldt held the position of vice president of program and project controls services at Triunity Engineering & Management starting in 2010. His career also includes a tenure as program controls manager at Jacobs Engineering from 2009 to 2010. From 1998 to 2009, he served as program/project controls manager at Parsons Brinckerhoff, where he was also programme controls manager from 2003 to 2007 and deputy director for the London Underground (Transport for London) programme assurance (controls) office during the same period. Earlier in his career, he was a scheduling manager for Silverado Constructors, a joint venture for the Eastern Transportation Corridor in Southern California from 1994 to 1998, and prior to 1994, he was the master scheduler for Denver International Airport.
Mr. VonFeldt’s academic foundation includes a Bachelor of Science degree in construction management from Colorado State University, completed in 1989. His education has been instrumental in his professional achievements, providing him with the technical expertise necessary for his roles in complex infrastructure projects. He holds certifications as a Project Management Professional from PMI-Los Angeles Chapter obtained in 2018 and project management certification from Parsons Brinckerhoff in 2002.
He has been fortunate to work with several mentors, including Mark Zehnder, Phil Washington, Richard Clarke, Jonnie Thomas, and Julie Owen, who provided valuable guidance and support on significant projects throughout Mr. VonFeldt’s career. He was also significantly influenced by his grandfather, who instilled values of honesty, diligence and ethical decision-making. These principles have guided Mr. VonFeldt throughout his professional journey, beginning as a project control engineer immediately after college graduation. His early projects included constructing a power plant and contributing to an international airport project, followed by a decade dedicated to building highways (toll-roads) and transit rail lines.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Mr. VonFeldt is actively involved in civic and academic communities. Since 2000, he has served as industry co-chair for the Research and Outreach Committee at the CSU Construction Management Department PADB and is a charter member of the Professional Advisory Development Board. He also holds an assistant professorship at CU Denver and serves as a guest lecturer at Los Angeles Trade Technical College. His greater community involvement includes delivering numerous presentations to professional associations in the United Kingdom and United States.
Mr. VonFeldt has contributed to publications such as blog articles advocating for digital transformation through building information models and has presented seminars like “Earned Value Reporting for TfL/London Underground” at the UK Best Practices Showcase in 2006. His dedication to fostering collaboration between industry and academia is evident through his volunteer work facilitating research on program and construction management topics.
In his personal life, Mr. VonFeldt enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife (high school sweetheart), children and grandchildren, and engaging in outdoor activities such as skiing and mountain biking. Looking ahead, he aims to unify the national public infrastructure ecosystem by fostering collaboration among public entities engaged in complex projects. His goal is to assist these organizations in maximizing outcomes while optimizing resources, particularly in preparation for the upcoming 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
