His expertise has been instrumental in positioning Absolics as a leader in the AI industry, particularly through his patented invention of glass substrate semiconductor chips, which utilize glass instead of silicon.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Kim has held several significant roles throughout his career. Since 2015, he has also been the director of new business development at SKC Inc., where he played a pivotal role in commercializing innovative technologies. From 2012 to 2015, he served as a research professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he researched the glass material technology that would later be used at Absolics with his invention. His earlier career includes serving as business unit head at Foxconn from 2010 to 2012, managing director at Daeduck Electronics from 2005 to 2010, vice president at UTAC from 2000 to 2005 and technical team lead at Amkor Technology from 1995 to 2000.
Dr. Kim’s academic background is equally impressive. He earned his Doctorate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Technical University of Dresden in Germany. This advanced education provided him with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to innovate within the semiconductor industry. In addition, he is the inventor of the plethora of advanced semiconductor packagings including microSD card and has more than 200 U.S. patents as a first inventor. He attributes much of his success to the support of great mentors, team members, customers and partners who have shared his vision and contributed to his achievements.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Kim is actively involved in civic activities as a volunteer and supporter of his local church. His contributions to the field have been recognized by prestigious organizations; notably, he received the 1st best patent award in Amkor Technology in 2000, and recently received an award for pioneering contributions in his field from IEEE in 2023.
On a personal note, Dr. Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea, and is a dedicated family man with one son and one daughter. He enjoys playing golf and inventing during his leisure time.
