Leveraging his success, he is the former Chief Operating Officer at TAG Resources LLC, where he honed his operational management skills between 2015 and 2019. Mr. Burrell’s extensive background in financial management also included various roles within the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Department of Defense, including as the Resource Director at the White House Communications Agency from 2012 to 2015 and as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Air Training Command in Afghanistan between 2011 and 2012. Additionally, Mr. Burrell had the opportunity to participate in the Stand-to Veteran Leadership Program in 2021, an initiative established by the George W. Bush Presidential Center.
Mr. Burrell’s military service, which spanned over 20 years before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel with the U.S. Air Force, is marked by significant leadership positions, such as a squadron commander from 2007 to 2010. His earlier roles included Chief Financial Officer for Air Force flying operations in the Pentagon, and various financial officer positions at bases, Major Commands, and Pentagon levels.
Dedicated to civic activities, Mr. Burrell has been active in his church and has maintained a black belt in Tae Kwon Do since 2016. He also invests time in veteran-related charities and remains active with The Citadel Alumni Association. Previously, Mr. Burrell served as the Knoxville chapter community leader for Bunker Labs and as a treasurer for the East Tennessee Military Affairs Council.
Highly educated, Mr. Burrell’s educational journey began with a Bachelor of Business Administration from The Citadel in 1994. He subsequently received a Master’s degree in Human Resources from Central Michigan University in 1996, a second Master’s degree in Cost Analysis from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology in 2007, and a third master’s degree in Professional Military Leadership with an emphasis in global security and national policy from the Air War College in 2011. In addition to his degrees, Mr. Burrell earned his Certified Defense Financial Manager designation through the American Society of Military Comptrollers in 2001, Level III Financial Management Certification through Office of the Secretary of Defense in 2014, and credentials as an Accredited Investment Fiduciary through Fi360 (now Broadridge) in 2017.
Mr. Burrell maintains membership with several professional organizations, including the National Venture Capital Association, Fi360 (now Broadridge), the National Association of Plan Advisors, and as a member and past chapter president of the American Society of Military Comptrollers. As a veteran, he is also engaged with the Military Officers Association of America and the Air Force Association.
As a testament to his hard work in the military, Mr. Burrell was awarded the Best Financial Officer in the U.S. Air Force twice, the highest award for his vocation while Active Duty. He was also decorated with a Presidential Service Badge from the President of the U.S. in 2013.
