Marquis Who’s Who Selects Jennifer L. Furlow, LCSW-S for Success in Mental Health Care

Ms. Jennifer L. Furlow, LCSW-S excels as a licensed clinical social worker at the Brook Army Medical Center

SPRING BRANCH, TEXAS, February 01, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ — Jennifer L Furlow, LCSW-S, has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Furlow is a licensed clinical social worker affiliated with the Brooke Army Medical Center, the U.S. Army’s premier medical facility in Texas. Joining the organization in 2023, she is involved in taking substance use assessments, providing timely referrals to therapists when necessary, ensuring access to resources and services, and discussions surrounding potential traumas. Besides her paid position, Ms. Furlow gives gratis supervision to one of her students’ pro bono work.

Leveraging her diverse expertise, Ms. Furlow formerly worked for the Bexar County Adult Detention Center through the University Health System for nearly a decade. During her tenure, she specialized in a clinical program dedicated to mitigating suicidal tendencies among male inmates facing serious charges, such as capital murder, murder, and sex offenses.

Ms. Furlow draws tremendous satisfaction in knowing that none of her patients have attempted suicide despite their high levels of impulsivity. She is also proud of the strong rapport she developed with inmates while at the detention center. Although the men initially hesitated to seek help despite having experienced severe trauma, they eventually participated in the clinical program and benefited significantly from her support.

Looking toward future goals, Ms. Furlow aims to form a geriatric program at the Brook Army Medical Center in partnership with one of the surgeons. She also aims to develop training programs for military social workers and expand her supervision program for students, specifically those who may not have the financial means to pay for them.

Initially, Ms. Furlow planned to pursue pre-medicine in the Midwest but chose to pivot after pausing for two years to care for her grandmother, who had been diagnosed with dementia. During that time, she decided to pursue social work instead with a mental health track after meeting a hospice social worker who significantly influenced her decision.

Ms. Furlow graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Master of Social Work from the University of Texas. Following graduation, she was honored to be elected as the student speaker for her graduating master’s class. Ms. Furlow also received a designation as a licensed clinical social worker and additional credentials in cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and immediate support skills.

In light of her success, Ms. Furlow received multiple nominations for her dedication as an exemplary Bexar County Adult Detention Center employee. She credits her success to her upbringing as a daughter of a single mother and the blessings she received from her grandmother, who taught her the importance of being independent, remaining humble, and persevering through challenges.
