Ms. Mackay founded Innerstate Healing and Recovery, a counseling service that offers assistance to clients suffering from trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety, intimacy disorders, and many other issues since 2021. She functions as a psychotherapist and is a certified or trained as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), in Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Post Induction Therapy (PIT) Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP)-candidate, and Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)-trained trauma and addictions therapist. The facility has offices in Hamilton, Montana, and offers the convenience of telehealth for clients residing in Arizona. The organization also recently partnered with New Beginning Ranch with Tom Martin to treat men who struggle with compulsive addictive behavior.
Before founding her organization, Ms. Mackay spent several years at other facilities, beginning as a therapist at Ascend Behavioral Health and Wellness LLC in 2016, as a mental health counselor at Destiny Behavioral Health Residential Care LLC in 2019, as a per diem therapist at the Calvary Healing Center in 2017, and as a licensed professional counselor and trauma psychotherapist at Gentle Path and Willow House at The Meadows in 2020. Additionally, she found success as a freelance author for WebMD in 2022 and as a brand designer and owner of Recovery Wear from 2022 to 2023.
Grateful for her accomplishments, Ms. Mackay draws a sense of fulfillment in being able to assist individuals effectively. While employed at The Meadows, she was exposed to a diverse range of therapies, which proved to be a transformative experience that led to a significant shift in her career trajectory. It enabled her to develop a highly effective approach. Ms. Mackay has also been fortunate to have received mentorship from those who have drastically changed the way mental health professionals practice. Ms. Mackay had the opportunity to serve on the board of 101.5 KFGM Missoula Community Radio and Show Host on Missoula Community Access Television. She has also been active civically as a tutor for the United Way HandsOn Greater Phoenix Network, Jobs for Arizona Graduates (JAG), speaker for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), and advocate for veterans at Operation First Responder. In addition, she served as an office and kitchen aid for the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.
Highly educated, Ms. Mackay received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Arizona in 2006. She also earned an associate degree in substance abuse and addiction counseling from Rio Salado College in 2015 and a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Capella University in 2018. Moreover, Ms. Mackay received credentials in her field as a certified sex addiction therapist (CSAT) through the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP), as an internationally certified alcohol and drug counselor through the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium, Post-Induction Therapy (PIT), and safe and sound protocol certification (SSP) through Integrated Learning Systems, a Polyvagal Theory approach. Active in her professional community, Ms. Mackay is a member of the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals, National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), and 101.5 KFGM Missoula Community Radio, and several other professional groups and boards.
Despite all these credentials, Megan MacKay considers her 3 daughters to be the greatest of her achievements.
