Having immigrated from Argentina as a young girl, Dr. Recasens faced hardships while advancing through the male-dominated field of retinal surgery. After completing her fellowship, she overcame the obstacles in her path and created a space for herself in the industry. In accounting for her success, she credits the selfless ways in which she has availed herself on behalf of her patients. After earning a medical doctorate from the University of Salvador School of Medicine in 1991, Dr. Recasens undertook internships at various medical institutions throughout the 1990s, culminating in her residency in ophthalmology at the Detroit Medical Center and her fellowship at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1999.
Well-regarded for her accomplishments in health care, Dr. Recasens was bestowed with a silver medal of honor by the University of Salvador in 1991. She was also inducted as a fellow by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and has been named among America’s Top Ophthalmologists since 2002.
