Since 2009, she has focused on developing programs that help developing countries improve their environmental policies. Under her leadership, UNDP in 2011 became the first entity within the United Nations to issue a publication acknowledging the need to consider women when beginning the design, implementation and monitoring of chemistry programmes. It also helps ensure that appropriate social and environmental safeguards are included in UNDP chemical waste programmes.
Prior to her current position, Ms. Kapadia started her career as an analyst at Capgemini in 2001 and UNDP India in 2006. She continued her career in 2006 to ensure access to financial services for the poor at UNCDF. She has also served on the board of directors and editorial board of the Microfinance Club of New York Inc. and the LSE International Relations Journal.
To prepare for her career, Ms. Kapadia earned a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business and Marketing from NYU’s Stern School of Business in 2000. Following this degree, she earned a Master of Science in Global Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2005.
In the years to come, Ms. Kapadia would like to continue her work to improve the world for future generations and to advocate for gender equality and the empowerment of women. She has spent her career integrating gender considerations into the chemical and waste management programs she leads to ensure the quality of her expertise remains high and that her work does not cause unintended harm to communities or individuals.
